Balansat Resort, Ibiza – An Honest Family Review

Travelling to Ibiza with children
Ibiza probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind for a family holiday, but I’m here to tell you that it can be great! Ibiza is a beautiful country with lots to offer. The beaches are incredible with wonderfully clear water and there is so much to do. We travelled with Jet2 from Manchester and stayed at the lovely Balansat Resort for 4 nights in May 2025.

Travelling to Ibiza from Manchester
Travelling out to Ibiza on the Thursday evening before a Bank Holiday weekend was an interesting experience with 3 children, to say the least! I would absolutely recommend choosing a morning flight to avoid some of the rowdiness from the Stag and Hen parties! This wasn’t something we considered when booking – but that being said, there was only one noisy group on our flight.
Jet2 operate from Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport and the facilities are lovely since being updated in 2021. The space is modern and well-equipped, with adequate table seating and plenty of options for food and drink, whether you’re after a sit-down meal, or fast food.

Arriving into Ibiza Airport
Jet2 are brilliant at providing an end-to-end service for their customers. Having not travelled with them before using a package holiday, it was a positive experience. My children and I were travelling with my Mum, but without my husband, so I didn’t feel confident hiring a car to drive on my own.
When arriving in Ibiza, there were several reps available to assist and direct. We opted for the ‘Free transfer’ that was included as part of the holiday price and this operated efficiently. There was a total of 3 stops, and fortunately, the other guests using the service were also families with small children!
Arriving at Balansat Resort
On arrival at Balansat Resort, I’ve got to be honest, the service from the front of house staff wasn’t the best and they were slightly impatient.
However, as we made our way to the room, we were pleasantly surprised. The apartment was immaculately clean and we had been left with a plate of sandwiches, bowls of chips, a selection of cakes and bottled water. The rest of the stay, the staff were AMAZING and couldn’t do enough for us. We had made specific requests regarding food for one of our party and it was willingly accommodated without hestitation.
So the moral of the story is: don’t be put off by first impressions!
We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment which also had 2 bathrooms – perfect for larger families or travelling with grandparents. There was a kitchen area in the living room, but we didn’t use this as we’d booked all inclusive. Outside there was a huge balcony overlooking the bay!
Facilities at Balansat Resort
- Beach front location
- Large swimming pool (inflatables allowed!)
- Splash park with small water slides
- Adults-only pool
- Children’s play area
- Pool tables and air hockey
- Buffet Restaurant
- Snack bar (opens between 10-6)
- Children’s entertainment (daily)
- Family-friendly evening entertainment
Balansat Resort has been designed with families in mind. The facilities are great for children and the resort is perfectly sized to allow some freedom and independence, whilst maintaining enough to do. The main pool is at the heart of the resort and is visible from the restaurant, snack bar, sports pitch, play area and in close proximity to the splash park. This central location of facilities avoids too much trapesing around with children, like you sometimes find in the bigger resorts. Our transfers service back to the airport was in the evening, and we were able to pay an additional €45 to keep our room until departure. This was money well-spent and I would absolutely recommend doing this, if available.
Balansat is a pretty resort surrounded by beautiful scenery. It is perfectly situated on the beachfront and there is a brilliant coastal walk that starts just outside the hotel leading to other lovely bays. The views along this coastal path are incredible.

Swimming facilities at Balansat
The swimming area was great and my children had a whale of a time here. When booking, I read in some reviews that pool shoes were required due to the surface in the pools. However, I bought these shoes for everyone and we didn’t need them.
It is a fresh water pool and it isn’t heated, which is to be expected. The splash park was brilliant for the little ones and my 10 year old enjoyed the small slides in there too. Inflatables were permitted in the main pool, and the atmosphere was really fun. The hotel entertainment hosts worked hard all day (and night) to lead activities in and out of the pool.

Port de Sant Miquel Beachfront
Port de Sant Miquel beach is situated right outside the hotel and it is beautiful. The water is super clear and there are several water activities to make the most of. Kayaks and Pedalos’ were available for hire for €20 per hour and you could also hire a sunbed on the beach. Please be aware, to hire anything, it is cash only! There is a cash machine inside the hotel, if required.
We tried out the pedalo and as a family of 5 could comfortably fit on one boat. It was a fun activity to do with the children and the pedalo had a slide on it – however, none of us were brave enough to use it in the deeper waters once we saw some jellyfish! Life jackets were available for the children (and adults if required). The water was really calm and the children were able to snorkel easily.
Next to the hotel, there is a reasonably large shop that sells all of the usual souvenirs, beach stuff and ice creams etc. It was probably slightly more expensive than in some of the bigger resorts, but it was in a prime location. My daughter picked up an Ibiza football kit here (as pictured above). Further down the road, there were some other shops, including a Spar.

Food at Balansat Resort
The restaurant is located at the centre of the resort, close to all of the facilities. It was always spotlessly clean and there were several members of their Team maintaining the standards.
The food was always fresh and replenished frequently. Each time we entered the restaurant, the host would approach us and ask if we had any specific requirements for that day. These requests were always handled in a positive manner and accommodated.
At both lunch and dinner, there were always 2 fresh pasta dishes on offer which were made to order. and there was always pizza available. There was a good selection of dishes on offer, and there was a theme each night for some of the food.
Breakfast was also great. My children ate so many pancakes! These were constantly replenished and there was a Nutella dispenser right next to them. Omelettes were made to order every day and the service was really efficient.

Day trips from Balansat Resort
Since our stay was only for 4 days, we didn’t explore beyond the resort. However, there are lots of amazing trips available:
- The Ibiza Express Train (land train) stops right outside the hotel and takes you on a 3 hour tour, visiting beaches and villages nearby
- Can Marca Caves – only 0.5km away. The entertainer host from the hotel leads a tour there on Sunday mornings.
- Boat trip to the beautiful, Formentera – there is a bus service that takes you to the place of departure
Travel Mum rating
Travel Mum score: 4.5/5
We would definitely return to Balansat Resort. We loved the family orientated environment of this hotel, and the location was absolutely fab for a relaxing break. The facilities were always clean and the fact that you can book a room with 2 bathrooms is brilliant for a family holiday. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this destination to my family and friends!

Unpopular opinion - but babies aren’t the worst encounter you could have in upper class….
I feel like I am on my own when I say this, but upper/business class is very overrated. People told me I’d never want to go back to economy, but luckily for me, I’m much more of an economy girl at heart. I did another business flight shortly after this in the Q Suite with Qatar, and I got the sh*t’s from their lobster mac and cheese - that was the nail in the coffin for my brief encounter with the boujee life 🫡

The fact I caught him saying this on camera 😭🥰
We managed to visit the Maldives on a budget by staying on local islands as opposed to expensive resort islands. These islands are much cheaper, not only for accommodation but for the day trips too. All of these experiences would have cost a fortune from a resort. A full day renting a boat for our family, seeing dolphins, sharks, sting rays and even lunch was only £160 for us all!

We did this as part of our budget Lapland trip!
(Give us a follow for tons more great travel ideals 🫶🏻)
This stay in itself wasn’t particularly budget, but, the joy of cutting back in all the other areas means things like this become affordable! @lakeinarimobilecabins offers this experience along with lots of other day trips and fun activities.
I have a whole blog post on how we did a week in Lapland for under £3000 (including everything from the clothes we bought to petrol!)
