However, like in any urban area, it’s important to be cautious, especially in crowded tourist spots. Pickpocketing can occur, so keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings, particularly at night or in unfamiliar areas.
Three to four days is ideal for exploring Riga. This allows enough time to see the main attractions like the Old Town, the Central Market, and the Art Nouveau district, while also enjoying the city’s restaurants, parks, and nearby day trips. With four days, you can relax and explore at a leisurely pace without feeling rushed.

The city’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is full of charming cobblestone streets, medieval buildings, and lively squares. Riga is also famous for its cozy Christmas markets, delicious Latvian cuisine, and vibrant cultural scene, making it a top destination in the Baltics.
The best time to visit Riga depends on your preferences. Summer (June to August) offers pleasant weather, outdoor festivals, and long daylight hours—ideal for sightseeing. Winter, especially December, brings a festive atmosphere with Christmas markets, twinkling lights, and a charming winter wonderland vibe. Both seasons have their unique appeal, so it depends if you prefer warm or wintery adventures.
Yes, many people in Riga, particularly in tourist areas, speak English, and you’ll find it easy to communicate in hotels, restaurants, and shops. Latvian is the official language, but Russian is also widely spoken. While learning a few basic Latvian phrases can be appreciated, English will suffice for most interactions during your stay.

Ksamil is a town on the Albanian Riviera and has had some very mixed reviews over the years, and I think a lot of that comes down to when you visit.
We absolutely loved our trip. It was incredibly affordable too - we paid £190 for six nights in an apartment that slept five! (This was in 2023) I’ve written a full blog post about the trip over on the website, where I’ve shared some great-value accommodation options and tips if you’re thinking about booking something similar.

We visited in May, when there were very few other people around. The town was just starting to open up for the season, the weather was lovely, and it felt relaxed and easy to enjoy.
June also seems like a great time to visit – a few more things open, but still without the peak summer crowds.
July and August appear to be a very different experience. The town is quite small, and it struggles to cope with the number of visitors in peak season. It can feel very crowded, and prices - particularly for things like sun loungers - can become very steep because of the demand.
So if Ksamil is on your list, timing really is everything!
