Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort – An Honest Family Review 2026
If you’re dreaming of sun-soaked days, sandy beach walks and the ultimate all-inclusive family holiday, Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort in Makadi Bay, Egypt should be on your radar. With year-round sunshine and warm Red Sea temperatures, it’s a fantastic option whether you’re escaping the UK winter or planning a summer break. This vibrant resort blends everything families want – big pool areas, a big waterpark, plenty of kids-club activities, a buffet and à la carte dining options that means even picky eaters can be happy. We visited as a family in 2026 and we’re sharing our honest experience, from the rooms to the entertainment, food and everything in between.

Getting There
First things first – getting there is nice and easy. Hurghada International Airport is around 30km from Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort, which usually means a transfer time of about 30–40 minutes depending on traffic and drop-offs. If you book a package holiday, transfers are typically included, which makes arrival day so much smoother (especially with tired kids in tow). Makadi Bay is just outside the main Hurghada strip, so you’re not stuck on the coach for ages – and that’s always a win in our book.
Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort is right on its own sandy beach, so the kids can dash from pool to sea in seconds. Whether it’s paddling in the Red Sea, building sandcastles, or grabbing a drink from the beach bar, everything is close and easy for families.
If you’d prefer a private transfer, you can book a return minibus with Suntransfers for approximately €40. It’s a great option if you want to head straight to Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort without waiting for multiple drop-offs – click here to view prices and book.

Pools & Waterpark at Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort
One of the biggest reasons families book Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort is for the incredible pool and waterpark facilities – and it really is one of the best family resorts in Makadi Bay for water lovers.
There are eight outdoor swimming pools at Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort, giving families plenty of space to spread out. Whether you want a lively atmosphere near the slides or a quieter corner to relax, there’s a pool area to suit every mood.
-
Eight outdoor pools – A fantastic choice for families looking for variety, including activity pools and calmer areas.
-
Heated pools in winter months – If you’re planning a winter sun holiday to Egypt, this is a huge bonus. We travelled at the end of January into February and swam every day. The heated pools at Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort meant we could stay in the water for hours without getting cold.
-
On-site waterpark with slides for all ages – The aqua park at Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort features a mix of larger slides for older children and adults, plus smaller splash slides perfect for younger kids. It’s ideal for families with mixed ages.
-
Three swim-up bars – Parents can cool off without leaving the pool, making it easy to keep an eye on the kids while still enjoying that all-inclusive experience.
-
Adults-only hydro pool (16+) – A brilliant feature for families travelling with teens. This adults-only area offers a calmer space to unwind while older children enjoy the main pools and water slides while still being nearby.
Because the pools are spread throughout the resort, Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort never feels cramped, even during busier periods. If you’re searching for a family-friendly hotel in Makadi Bay with water slides, heated pools and plenty of space, this resort absolutely delivers.
The Beach at Sunrise Royal Makadi Beach Resort
Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort sits directly on its own stretch of sandy beach in Makadi Bay, making it incredibly easy to switch between pool and sea with kids. The beach is beautifully sandy, not rocky at all – and even underfoot in the sea it stays soft and comfortable, which isn’t always the case in Egypt.
There’s plenty of space to spread out, and the water has a gentle, gradual entry, which is a big plus if you’ve got younger children. The Red Sea here is also great for snorkelling, with clear water and colourful fish just a short swim from shore. Sunbeds, parasols and a beach bar nearby are all included, making Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort a fantastic choice for a relaxed, family-friendly beach holiday.

Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort – Our Overall Opinion
Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort completely exceeded our expectations. The gardens are beautifully maintained, the whole resort is incredibly clean and tidy, and you can tell a lot of care goes into keeping everything looking its best. From the pools to the beachfront, it feels well looked after and organised, which instantly makes your holiday more relaxing.
The staff truly make the experience – nothing is too much trouble, and the service throughout our stay was fantastic. We genuinely struggled to find any negatives, which is rare for us! Between the food options, the family-friendly atmosphere, the onsite facilities, and how smooth everything is from arrival, it really was a stress-free sunshine escape from start to finish.
We’re already looking to return – and that says everything. It takes a lot for us to book the same resort twice when there are so many places to explore, but this one has absolutely won us over.
TRAVEL MUM SCORE: 5/5
We would happily recommend this resort to families with or without children. If you’re looking for guaranteed year round sunshine, great service, and a well-run, spotless resort in Hurghada, Egypt this is one we’d confidently recommend.

Ksamil is a town on the Albanian Riviera and has had some very mixed reviews over the years, and I think a lot of that comes down to when you visit.
We absolutely loved our trip. It was incredibly affordable too - we paid £190 for six nights in an apartment that slept five! (This was in 2023) I’ve written a full blog post about the trip over on the website, where I’ve shared some great-value accommodation options and tips if you’re thinking about booking something similar.
Comment BLOG and I’ll send you the link along with some cheap flights and info on how to get there!
Expect things like:
🍻 £1.50 pints
🦐 Seafood dishes for under £10
☀️ Beautiful, crystal-clear beaches
We visited in May, when there were very few other people around. The town was just starting to open up for the season, the weather was lovely, and it felt relaxed and easy to enjoy.
June also seems like a great time to visit – a few more things open, but still without the peak summer crowds.
July and August appear to be a very different experience. The town is quite small, and it struggles to cope with the number of visitors in peak season. It can feel very crowded, and prices - particularly for things like sun loungers - can become very steep because of the demand.
So if Ksamil is on your list, timing really is everything!
