A Family Guide to Autism Friendly Holidays in Spain 2026
Planning a holiday with family is exciting but when you’re travelling with a child or loved one who is neurodiverse, it also takes extra thought and preparation. The good news? Spain is becoming a fantastic destination for autism-friendly travel, with more hotels embracing sensory-friendly spaces, staff training, visual supports, and environments designed to reduce stress and overwhelm.
Below I’ve highlighted some of the top options in Spain that cater to neurodiverse families, from purpose-built sensitivity features to certified autism-friendly hotels.
TUI Blue Aura – A neuroinclusive hotel
Located on Ibiza’s beautiful west coast at Port d’es Torrent, TUI Blue Aura has become a standout choice for families seeking a holiday that’s both fun and supportive for neurodiverse families. As one of TUI’s first neuro-inclusive hotels, they have introduced a dedicated sensory room at this resort – designed specifically for guests who may find busy environments overwhelming. These calming, low-stimulus spaces feature soft lighting, gentle textures, and areas to relax and reset during your stay. Staff have also receive enhanced neurodiversity awareness training, and kids’ club areas use visual communication supports to help children feel secure about what’s happening next.
Why Families Love It
Sensory Room: Calm zones allocated for sensory breaks, open throughout your stay. They also have Sensory Bags available to borrow, filled with tactile, visual, and auditory items to help children self-regulate, plus ear defenders!
Neurodiversity Champions: TUI are working with Sennies on a three-year collaboration providing specialised training, visual supports, and communication cards so children can clearly communicate with their team. They have dedicated team members in each region acting as trusted points of contact and sharing expertise.
Family-Friendly Fun: Kids’ clubs, water park access, play zones, and varied activities help children engage at their own pace. You can experience a range of inclusive activities at TUI BLUE Aura, including:
– Parent & Baby Sensory Adventure sessions for ages 0–2 years, encouraging early sensory play in a calm, inclusive setting.
– Family activity sessions (Sensory Connections) for families to connect, engage and build confidence together outside of kids’ clubs.
Great Beach Access: Just steps from the sandy cove of Port des Torrent.
Certified Autism-Friendly Hotels
The Autism Friendly Club initiative certifies spaces that meet accessibility needs for autistic guests, including visual supports, trained staff, predictable environments, and orientation resources.

Eurocamps
We’ve also found Eurocamps to be a great low-demand holiday option for our neurodiverse family and there are some great options in Spain! Self-catering accommodation, flexible routines, and quieter surroundings give us far more control and reduce pressure.

Tips for Planning an Autism-Friendly Family Holiday
Here are some practical tips when choosing and booking:
Ask about quiet rooms – spaces away from entertainment areas and lifts can make a big difference.
Request guides and pre-arrival info – some autism-friendly hotels provide visual guides so kids know what to expect.
Discuss mealtime preferences – some hotels offer menus with symbols or can cater to specific routines or sensitivities.
Bring comfort items – favourite toys, headphones, or sensory tools help make new environments feel familiar.
Plan transitions – having a flexible schedule helps manage energy levels during exciting or busy days.
Sunflower Lanyard & Spain’s Hidden Disabilities Badge
When planning a holiday with a child or family member on the autism spectrum, airport navigation can be one of the trickiest parts of the journey. Many families are familiar with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard – a discreet symbol worn around the neck that signals to staff that the wearer (or someone with them) may need a little extra time, patience, or support during travel or in public spaces. This initiative originated in UK airports and has spread to many countries and organisations worldwide as a way to increase understanding of “invisible” needs like autism, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, and other hidden disabilities.
Sunflower Lanyard: A Useful Visual Aid
Wearing the sunflower lanyard can help staff and fellow travellers instantly recognise that your family may benefit from a moment of extra consideration, for example, more time in queues, gentler guidance through busy areas, or help locating a quieter waiting area. In some countries and venues (especially in the UK and at selected European airports), sunflower symbols are widely understood and often come with trained staff who can respond appropriately.
However, in Spain the situation is a little different:
Spain’s Invisible Disabilities Badge
At all major Spanish airports operated by Aena (including Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Málaga, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife and more), they use their own Invisible Disabilities Badge system, which you must apply for before you travel.
Here’s how it works:
Apply Online in Advance – Before your flight, you can request the Invisible Disabilities Badge via Aena’s online form by entering your flight and passenger details.
Receive a Badge for Your Travel Day – Aena will email you a special badge you can either print or show on your phone on the day you travel.
Use It at the Airport – Presenting this badge at the airport can help you access disability-friendly services such as dedicated security lanes (where available) and staff assistance through more stressful parts of check-in and security.
One Badge Per Travel Party – Only one badge is needed per travel group.
You can apply for this here:
Spain is an increasingly welcoming destination for neurodiverse travellers, with a growing selection of hotels tuned to the needs of autistic guests and their families. Whether you’re seeking the structured calm of a certified autism-friendly resort or the sensory supports emerging at family favourites like TUI Blue Aura, there’s something to suit every style of trip.
With thoughtful planning and the right accommodation choice for your family, Spain could be a great option for your next family holiday!
