Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo With a Toddler – Honest Family Review 2026

We recently headed to Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo for one of their special toddler sessions, and it turned out to be a really lovely way to experience the park with a little one in tow. These sessions don’t open the full park, but they’re much calmer, more manageable, and perfect if you’ve got younger children who aren’t quite ready for the big rides yet.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo – Rides

During our visit, only selected areas of the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo were open for the toddler sessions, which actually worked in our favour. It felt far less overwhelming than a full park day, with short walks between rides and minimal queues.

There were still plenty of gentle rides suitable for little ones – think classic family favourites, mini thrill rides, and soft play-style attractions that toddlers can enjoy with an adult. It’s very much about that first “theme park experience” rather than big coasters, and we liked how relaxed everything felt.

The best part? No pressure to rush around trying to “do it all”. We could just follow our toddler’s lead, repeat favourite rides, and take breaks when needed.

Flamingo Land Theme Park (Toddler-Friendly Rides)

Even during the toddler sessions, the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo still gives little ones a proper taste of rides designed just for them. Some of the key toddler-friendly rides include:

  • Helitoys – a gentle helicopter-style ride where kids can “pilot” their own mini aircraft and float through the air.
  • Frog Hopper – a small drop ride that gives just the tiniest taste of a “big thrill” in a very safe, bouncy way.
  • Runaway Train – a Wild West-themed mini coaster-style ride, perfect as a first “real ride” experience for little ones.
  • Jungle Carousel – a classic carousel-style ride with jungle theming, ideal for toddlers and younger children.
  • Muddy Duck Tractor Ride – a slow tractor ride around the farm-themed area, great for a calm break between busier attractions.
  • Vortex – a spinning-style ride that simulates the feeling of a storm, but still designed for younger riders.
  • HMS Bouncy – a soft play-style attraction that feels more like an indoor adventure zone than a ride.

These are all designed so children can ride with very low height restrictions (many even allowing accompanied toddlers), which is why the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo works well for that early theme park experience without being overwhelming.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo (Animals)

The zoo side of the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is a real highlight, and arguably the most accessible part during toddler sessions.

There’s a huge variety of animals, and the layout makes it easy to wander around at a toddler pace without feeling like you’re missing anything.

Some of the animals you can expect include:

  • Big cat species like lions and tigers
  • Giraffes and rhinos in spacious viewing areas
  • Monkeys and smaller primates that are really engaging for kids
  • Sea lions and aquatic animals that often steal the show
  • Flamingos (of course!) which are a signature feature of the park

What we really liked is that the animal areas aren’t just “walk past and look” – there are plenty of viewing platforms, open enclosures, and moments where little ones can stop and properly take everything in.

There are also regular talks and feeding times (on normal operating days), which add a bit of structure and make it feel more interactive than a standard zoo walk.

For toddlers, this part of Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo actually ended up being the biggest win – it naturally breaks up the day and gives a calmer alternative to the rides.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo – Animal Experiences

The Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo also offers a range of paid animal experiences if you want something extra special, including giraffe, lemur, penguin and meerkat encounters, plus larger “keeper for a day” style experiences. Prices generally start from around £35 per person for guided experiences and go up to around £50 per person for closer animal encounters, with the full zookeeper day costing around £250+. These must be booked in advance and are aimed more at older children and adults, so we didn’t do any of these on our visit.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo – Food and Drink

The park has a wide range of food and drink options, from sit-down restaurants and grills to kiosks serving burgers, pizzas, fish and chips, hot dogs, ice cream and drinks, plus Costa Coffee outlets for hot drinks and snacks. We chose to keep things simple and took a packed lunch, which worked really well with plenty of picnic spots and benches available across the park and zoo areas. We also treated ourselves to hot chocolates from Costa, which made for a nice mid-day break. Overall, there’s plenty on offer if you want to buy food on-site, but bringing your own definitely makes the day easier and more budget-friendly, especially with a toddler at the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo – Ticket Prices

Tickets for the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo vary depending on date and how far in advance you book. Standard day tickets are usually around £29-£46 per person, with cheaper prices available off-peak if booked early. Zoo-only tickets are also available from around £18-£21, and children under 3 go free.

Parent & Toddler Sessions (What We Did)

The Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo toddler sessions run on selected weekdays during school term time (mainly spring, summer and autumn). Dates are released in advance and must be booked online. Prices change, but I believe we paid £25 for my son and I to visit.

During these sessions:

  • Only selected toddler-friendly rides and zoo areas are open
  • The park is much quieter with minimal queues
  • Everything feels slower-paced and more relaxed

Toddler sessions are generally priced lower than peak full-day tickets (often closer to off-peak rates), making them good value for younger families. You’re paying for a calmer, reduced offering – but for toddlers, that actually works in its favour.

Outside of these sessions, full-price entry can feel less good value for families with very young children who won’t use most of the bigger rides.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo (Accommodation)

We didn’t stay overnight on this visit, but the wider Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo resort has a full range of accommodation options if you want to turn it into a short break.

From what we saw, everything is very much set up as a self-contained holiday resort – so you’ve got the theme park, zoo, and accommodation all in one place. That makes it really convenient for families who don’t want to travel off-site once they arrive.

Options typically include:

  • Holiday lodges and woodland-style accommodation
  • Caravan and holiday park-style stays
  • Resort lodging within walking distance of the park and zoo

Staying on-site means you’re right next to both the theme park and zoo, which is ideal if you’ve got younger children who might need breaks during the day or early nights back at accommodation.

Other Things to Do with Kids in North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire is packed with brilliant family days out, so if you’re visiting the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, it’s well worth building in a few extra adventures nearby too.

One of the most popular options is the North York Moors Railway, where you can hop on a heritage steam train and travel through some absolutely stunning countryside – a huge hit with little train fans. There are also amazing seaside days out at places like Whitby and Scarborough, with beaches, arcades, boat trips and plenty of fish and chips to keep kids happy. For something more nature-focused, you’ve got places like Dalby Forest, which is brilliant for walking trails, cycling, play areas and outdoor adventure parks. And if you head slightly further afield, the historic city of York offers loads of family-friendly attractions including museums, boat rides and interactive experiences. Overall, North Yorkshire is full of easy win days out that mix nature, animals and adventure alongside the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo visit.

Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo With a Toddler – Final Thoughts

Overall, our experience of the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo was really positive. It felt calm, manageable, and genuinely enjoyable with a young child – which isn’t always easy at bigger theme parks.

That said, I’d say this is where Flamingo Land really shines for families with toddlers. The quieter sessions make it much more accessible and good value for a relaxed day out.

Outside of these sessions and during full park opening, it’s probably a very different experience – busier, more expensive, and geared much more towards older kids and thrill seekers.

So for us? Toddler sessions = absolutely worth it. A full standard day with a toddler? I’m sure we’ll find out.

The last time I posted about this, there were so many comments from people saying you shouldn`t drink around children. Which I find mad as a child of the 90`s who grew up in working class England when pub culture was at its peak.

Kids entertaining themselves, a glass of wine with friends... If someone wants to open a soft play bar, I`ll be your first customer 🫡

Menorca is a fab shout for a family holiday 🍹

Short transfers ✔️
Calm, shallow beaches ✔️
No chaos, just a relaxed vibe ✔️

It’s one of the easiest places we’ve travelled with kids. Safe, simple, and really stress free. Think beach days, ice creams, and slow evenings without the hectic scenes you can often get on Mallorca and Ibiza. We decided we wanted to live there on the first day of our holiday 😝

We went in August which was a little too hot for us and very busy on some of the most popular beaches. The next time we go we will try May/June or September/October.

Comment MENORCA and I’ll send you a link to our favourite Menorca hotels with splash parks plus a video I made about a cheap boat trip we did 💛

We visited Billund having no idea what to expect, all we knew was that it is the birthplace of LEGO (which was enough in itself to make us want to visit!) We visited LEGOLAND, LEGO House, Lalandia and Wow Park. It’s a very walkable city and really great for families.

Annoyingly Ryanair dropped a lot of routes there, so you can only fly directly from London and Edinburgh. A great alternative is flying to Copenhagen and getting the train. Some people even drive there!

If you go to our blog and search Billund, we have a couple of posts on there about the attractions we visited.
