Lego House Billund
LEGO House Billund: The Ultimate Experience for LEGO Lovers of All Ages
If you’re planning a trip to Billund, Denmark (the actual birthplace of LEGO!) then a visit to LEGO House is a must. Most people have heard of the LEGOLAND in Billund, but less people seem aware of this one. Known as the “Home of the Brick,” LEGO House is a magical, interactive playground for fans of all ages. It’s not just a museum or any ordinary attraction; it’s a vibrant space where creativity meets innovation.
LEGO House is an experience that allows visitors to dive deep into the world of LEGO, even getting to bring their LEGO creations to life. Whether you’re visiting with kids, or you’re an adult LEGO fan, LEGO House promises a day filled with plenty of fun.

Getting to Billund from the UK
Getting to Billund used to be very cheap and easy, especially for those traveling from the UK. Direct flights with Ryanair from major cities like London and Manchester took less than two hours, making it a perfect spot for a family weekend trip. Unfortunately Ryanair wont be flying there anymore.
The reason for this is noted on the Ryanair website:
“Ryanair, today (Fri, 31 Jan) announced that it will close its 2 aircraft Billund base (a loss of $200m investment) and cut all routes to/from Aalborg from the end of March, in response to the Govt’s short-sighted decision to introduce an aviation tax of up to DKK 50 per departing passenger from Jan 2025, coupled with Billund’s failure to agree a competitive long-term agreement.”
A Ryanair spokesperson said:
“We are very disappointed to announce the closure of our 2 aircraft Billund base and our operations at Aalborg from the end of March, but we have been left with no other choice following the Danish Govt’s short-sighted decision to introduce a harmful aviation tax from Jan 2025.
Ryanair is the only major airline growing in Europe, and cost is the main factor when deciding where to allocate aircraft and growth. Unfortunately, this harmful aviation tax makes Denmark (especially regional Denmark) hopelessly uncompetitive compared to other EU countries, like Sweden, Hungary, and Italian regions, who are abolishing aviation taxes to stimulate traffic recovery and growth”
Alternative ways to access Billund
You can still fly between London and Billund with airlines like British Airways. Naturally this will be more expensive than you would have previously paid with Ryanair.
You could consider getting budget flights to Copenhagen and then a 3 hour train to Billund. Copenhagen is a fantastic destination for families, you can read more about it here.
A Brief History of LEGO House
Opened in 2017, LEGO House was designed to be the ultimate homage to the iconic brick. Situated in the heart of Billund, just a stone’s throw from the original LEGO factory. This one-of-a-kind attraction represents everything LEGO stands for: creativity, learning, and play.
The concept for LEGO House began with a simple idea: to create a space where fans could not only admire the brand’s history but also actively engage with it. The result is a blend of museum, playground, and creative workshop with a series of fantastic hands-on experiences.
The Architecture: A LEGO Masterpiece
LEGO House (the building itself) is visually amazing. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), its architecture is like a giant LEGO structure with large, interconnected blocks stacked upon one another.
The 12,000 square meter building is divided into a variety of zones and activity areas inside, each encouraging guests to think, build, and play in new and creative ways.
How to Get to LEGO House Billund
LEGO House is conveniently located in the heart of Billund city centre, making it easily accessible from nearby attractions. If you’re staying at Hotel LEGOLAND or the LEGOLAND Resort, it’s just a 14-minute walk to LEGO House. The walk is especially fun for kids, thanks to the Play line, a playful route around the main highlights of Billund and leading from LEGOLAND to LEGO House. Is it just a few lines painted on the floor? Yes… but Leo has a lot of fun following it! For those arriving from Billund Airport, the LEGO House is only a short 10-minute drive away, and taxis are readily available.

How Much Time Do You Need at LEGO House?
Plan for at least 4-5 hours at LEGO House, though if you have time, you can easily spend a full day there. With so many activities and interactive zones, it’s a place where kids and adults alike get completely immersed in building, exploring, and discovering.
If you’re also planning to visit other Billund attractions, like LEGOLAND Billund, make sure you set aside enough time. Trust me, once you’re in LEGO House, it’s hard to pull yourself away! We visited Wow Park in the afternoon and rushing the two attractions into one day wasn’t ideal.
Ticket Prices and Deals
A visit to LEGO House is surprisingly affordable, considering everything it offers:
- General admission: 239/279/339 DKK (£27/£31/£38), depending on the time of the year
- Children age 0-2: Free
-
Late arrival tickets, where you get access to LEGO House 3-4 hours before the Experience Zones closes, for cheaper: 169/209/269 DKK (£19/£23/£30)
If you book online in advance, you can often snag tickets at a slight discount and guarantee your entry. There are also combo deals if you’re planning to visit LEGOLAND, for 629 DKK (£70) for one day entry on each. Keep an eye on their website for seasonal promotions or family packages, which can offer great savings for larger groups.
Opening Times
LEGO House is open year-round, with Experience Zones opening times indicated below
- Sunday to Friday: 10 AM – 4 PM
- Saturday: 10AM – 5 PM
with extended hours during peak seasons and school holidays.
It’s always a good idea to check their website for any changes in hours, especially during public holidays or special events.
Things to do at LEGO House: Creativity Unleashed
LEGO House is divided into four colour coded zones, each designed to ignite creativity, stimulate learning and provide lots of fun. Each zone focuses on a different aspect of play, and the entire building has something for everyone, from toddlers to grown-ups. Here’s what you can expect from each level:
1. Red Zone: Creative Play
In the Red Zone, you can build anything you want. From cars to castles to fantastical creatures, this zone is all about free-form creativity. There are building tables filled with LEGO bricks, and no matter your skill level, there’s something here for everyone. We couldn’t get Leo away!
2. Blue Zone: Cognitive Challenges
For kids (and adults) who love puzzles and problem-solving, the Blue Zone is perfect. Here, you’ll find interactive stations that test your skills, whether it’s designing and programming robot bees, or solving challenges in a LEGO city simulation.
3. Green Zone: Role-Playing and Storytelling
In the Green Zone, you step into the world of LEGO mini figures and get to create your own Lego stop motion movie. The World Explorer area lets you build and interact with massive LEGO dioramas. There are pirate ships, space stations, and cityscapes, each offering new adventures. It’s a fantastic way for kids to unleash their imaginations through role-playing.
4. Yellow Zone: Emotional Play
The Yellow Zone is focused on emotional expression and self-discovery. Here, you’ll build LEGO fish and release them into a digital aquarium or create characters that reflect your emotions. It’s a more calming, reflective area, perfect for unwinding after all the high-energy action elsewhere in the house.
The Basement: The History of LEGO
Before you leave, make sure to visit the Basement, where LEGO’s rich history is on display in their Lego Museum. From the original wooden toys crafted in the 1930s to the first plastic brick that changed everything, it’s a nostalgic journey through the evolution of LEGO. This level pays tribute to the craftsmanship and innovation that have made LEGO a global phenomenon.
Dining at LEGO House: Mini Chef and BRICKACCINO
LEGO House isn’t just about playing, it’s about eating in style too. For a meal with a twist, head to Mini Chef, a restaurant where you place your order through a clever combination of LEGO bricks! Once you’ve built your order, robots in the kitchen get to work and deliver your food through a fun conveyor system. While you don’t necessarily need to book, it’s highly recommended to ensure you get a table, especially during peak hours. (We have a reel showing the restaurant below)

If you’re in the mood for something lighter, grab a coffee or snack at BRICKACCINO. This cozy café offers a range of beverages and sweet treats, perfect for a quick break between building sessions.
Wristbands and Personalised Experience
What makes LEGO House even more special is how personalised the experience can be. When you enter, you’re given a wristband that tracks your progress throughout the day. As you build, create, and explore, your wristband stores all your creations. After your visit, you can download your memories from the LEGO House website and relive the highlights of your day (for no extra cost!)

Other Things to Do While in Billund
Billund has plenty to offer beyond LEGO House. If you’re looking for more adventure, why not check out WOW PARK Billund, where you can immerse yourself in nature with treetop walkways, ziplines, and even marshmallow roasting by the fire. And of course, no trip to Billund is complete without a visit to LEGOLAND Billund, where more LEGO-themed fun awaits, including thrilling rides and LEGO sculptures around every corner.
Is LEGO House Worth It?
In a word—absolutely. Our son Leo said this was the highlight of his trip, and it’s easy to see why. Whether you’re building, creating movies, or just soaking up the rich history of LEGO, there’s something for everyone at LEGO House. It’s more than just a stop on your Billund itinerary; it’s an experience that will stay with you long after you’ve left.

It’s so much more than just LEGOLAND!
Billund in Denmark is the perfect destination for a family short break. The LEGO hotel is cheaper than the one in Windsor and honestly, the park is SO much better.
We spent two days in LEGOLAND which was just enough, however you CAN NOT miss Lego House, WOW park and a trip to lalandia.

Is this the coolest restaurant?!
For our Lego loving son it absolutely is!
Located in Lego House in Billund Denmark, this restaurant is definitely unique. You can eat here without paying for admission to Lego House, but you should definitely check it out if you have time, our son enjoyed Lego House more than Legoland!
Two adult meals, a kids meal, 3 beers and a coke was £85 - pricey, but a really unique experience!

Have you been to both parks?! Which did you prefer? PR visit
Both of these Legoland parks are brilliant but we REALLY enjoyed Billund. The queues were much better, prices at the park were cheaper and the park just felt more well structured. I’ll be posting lots more about it this week.
We stayed at the Lego hotel and visited Lalandia, Lego house and Wow park during the trip. Highly recommend for a family short break!

The Algarve has arguably one of the most beautiful coastlines in Europe. If it’s dramatic cliffs, blue sea and year round sun weren’t enough, the Algarve has amazing seafood, great wines and lots of quaint little towns to explore.

Day 1 of our 17 night trip to the Algarve and Porto 🇵🇹✈️
We visit the Algarve often as João is from here - the poor lad unfortunately left this sunny paradise for Nottinghamshire to be with me ✨ We are looking to move back here as soon as we can escape our mortgage..
Anyway, Alvor is honestly such a perfect place for a holiday. If you’re considering the Algarve look into Alvor or Portimão. I’ll do more videos on here later in the trip. The weather stays great into September and October, so it is the perfect place for a post summer escape. ☀️
