Marrakech With Kids – 2026 Guide

Many people wonder if Marrakech is a good place to visit with children, and the answer is yes. In fact, our trip to Marrakech has been one of my favourite family holidays. We went for 4 nights and found it was the perfect amount of time to plan our itinerary. This guide to Marrakech with kids is here to help you feel more confident when planning your own trip.

From colourful souks and camel rides to beautiful gardens and riads with swimming pools, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained. While it’s very different from a typical European city break, that’s part of the magic. With the right planning, visiting Marrakech with kids can be exciting, educational and surprisingly relaxing. It’s also a great opportunity for children to experience a completely new culture.

Best Areas to Stay in Marrakech with Kids

When following a guide to Marrakech with kids, choosing the right place to stay can make a huge difference to your trip. We travelled in February, and while the daytime temperatures were perfect for exploring, it did get cooler in the evenings.

There are three main areas to consider:

Medina

Staying inside the Medina means you’re close to the main attractions and can explore on foot, which is a big plus when travelling with kids. You’ll also find a number of traditional hammams here, offering a more authentic experience.

However, if you’re visiting in cooler months, pack warm pyjamas as many riads don’t have heating.

Hivernage

This area is much quieter and is home to larger hotels, many of which have pools. As a result, it’s a great option if you want a more relaxed stay while still being close to the city.

Palmeraie

Palmeraie is ideal if you’re looking for a resort-style break. There are some fantastic family-friendly hotels here, often with pools, kids’ clubs and plenty of space. Many also offer free shuttle buses into the centre, making sightseeing easy.

For our trip, we chose an Airbnb just outside the Medina. This gave us a quieter base while still being within easy walking distance, and taxis were always easy to find when needed.

Top Things to Do in Marrakech with Kids

Hot Air Balloon Ride

This was a real bucket list experience for me and worth every penny. It’s an early start, but when travelling with kids, early mornings are often part of the routine anyway.

You’ll travel for around an hour towards the Atlas Mountains, where you’ll enjoy tea and a light breakfast before take-off. Once in the air, you’ll float over incredible landscapes at sunrise, often surrounded by dozens of other balloons. Afterwards, there’s more food and refreshments before heading back. It’s a truly unforgettable experience for the whole family.

Walking Tour with Food Tasting

A guided walking tour is a great way to explore Marrakech with kids, especially at the start of your trip. Not only does it help you get your bearings, but it also gives you the chance to try local food.

We loved this experience, and my son especially enjoyed tasting different dishes and watching how they were made. It’s a fun and easy way to introduce children to Moroccan cuisine.

Dinner Show at Dar Essalam

This was one of my favourite evenings of the trip, and families are very welcome. The evening starts around 7pm and continues late, although we left at around 10pm, which worked perfectly with a child.

There’s a mix of dancers, fire shows and traditional music, alongside a delicious meal. It’s a full sensory experience and something a bit different from your usual dinner out.

Visit Majorelle Garden

The Majorelle Garden is a peaceful escape from the busy streets. Kids will love spotting colourful plants, fountains and even turtles, while the vibrant blue buildings make it feel extra special. It’s a great place to slow the pace down for a while.

Bahia Palace

The Bahia Palace is a beautiful place to explore with children. The intricate tiles, peaceful courtyards and open spaces make it much more relaxed than the busy souks. It’s also a great spot to introduce kids to Moroccan history and architecture in an easy, engaging way. If you are buying tickets on the day, they accept cash only.

Camel Ride, Dinner & Fire Show

A trip to the Agafay Desert is well worth adding to your itinerary. Many tours include a camel ride, dinner and a live show under the stars. It’s a fantastic way to experience a desert setting without travelling too far from the city, and it often ends up being a highlight for kids.

Free things to do in Marrakech with kids

Visit the Marrakech Souks

Exploring the souks is one of the most exciting parts of visiting Marrakech with kids. The narrow streets are filled with colourful stalls selling spices, lanterns, textiles and toys. It can feel busy, so take your time and enjoy the experience rather than trying to rush through.

Explore Jemaa el-Fnaa Square

The heart of Marrakech is Jemaa el-Fnaa, and it’s an experience kids won’t forget. During the day, you’ll find juice stalls and street performers. As the evening approaches, the square becomes even livelier with food stalls, music and entertainment.

Practical Tips for Visiting Marrakech with Kids

Practical things

When following a guide to Marrakech with kids, it’s helpful to plan ahead. Many restaurants and shops don’t accept card payments, so it’s a good idea to carry some cash. However, there are plenty of ATMs available across the city.

Most UK mobile providers don’t include Morocco in their roaming, so consider downloading an eSIM such as Airalo before you travel.

You may also need to a paper boarding pass for your return flight so make sure you have this sorted before travelling or you may have to find facilities to print when you are on holiday.

Plan for downtime

Marrakech is vibrant and exciting, but it can also feel intense. Therefore, it’s important to plan some downtime into your itinerary. Many riads and hotels have pools, which are perfect for relaxing after a busy morning of sightseeing. This is especially important if you’re doing bigger activities like a hot air balloon ride.

Taxis

Taxis are easy to find and are one of the most convenient ways to get around. From the airport there is a flat fee of 150Dh (to zone 6) to return only cost us 40Dh.  To get around the main Medina should cost no more than 50Dh. It’s best to agree a price before starting your journey, as meters aren’t always used. If you have mobile data you can download the InDrive which is similar to Uber.

Restaurants

There are so many beautiful restaurants across the city, many with rooftop terraces. These are perfect for winding down after a busy day. Some of my top recommendations are Kabana, Dar Dar Rooftop, El Fenn and Nomad.

Enjoying dinner while watching the sunset over the Medina is something that makes Marrakech with kids feel that little bit more special.

Final Thoughts on Marrakech with Kids

Visiting Marrakech with kids can be an unforgettable family adventure. The colours, food, markets and culture make it unlike anywhere else.

By following a guide to Marrakech with kids, you can plan a trip that balances adventure with relaxation. With a mix of exciting experiences and peaceful riad stays, it’s a destination that truly works for families.

If you’re looking for something a little different for your next trip, Marrakech might just surprise you.

This was an absolute dream trip for us, and we would recommend this hotel to everyone. ᵃᵈ
