Liverpool Airport Guide 2025
Liverpool Airport is just 25 minutes from the city centre and serves as a convenient hub for travellers across the North West and North Wales. Although it has grown in the past decade, it remains a relatively small and user-friendly airport – especially compared to Manchester, Heathrow or Gatwick.
This smaller size means quicker check-ins, shorter queues, and less walking between terminals – ideal if you’re flying with children or have limited mobility.
Getting to Liverpool Airport by Car
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is easily accessible from major motorway routes, including the M57, M62, and M56. Whether you’re driving from Liverpool, Chester, Manchester, or further afield, you’ll find the road links well-connected.
Top Tip: Allow extra time during peak travel hours as traffic near the airport can get busy.
Liverpool Airport Parking: What Are Your Options?
There are several convenient car parking options at Liverpool Airport, depending on your needs and budget:
- Long Stay – this is what we personally use!
Great for budget-conscious travellers and families. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the terminal.
- Multi-Storey
Located directly opposite the terminal, ideal for quick access and shorter stays.
- Fast Track Family
Designed for families, this parking option offers:
- Wider parking spaces
- A one-minute walk to the terminal
- Complimentary Fast Track Security tickets
While we haven’t used Fast Track Family ourselves, we’ve found cheaper alternatives and often get fast-tracked through family/assisted lanes anyway.
- Meet and Greet
Perfect for a seamless experience – just drop off your car and walk straight into the terminal.

Travelling to Liverpool Airport by Train or Bus
- Liverpool South Parkway Station
This is the closest rail station, just 3 miles from the airport. You can take a short taxi or hop on a connecting bus.
- Liverpool Lime Street Station
Located 7 miles away, Lime Street is one of the UK’s major railway hubs. It connects directly to:
- London
- Manchester
- Chester
- Birmingham
- Glasgow
- And more
From Lime Street, you can:
- Catch a direct train to Liverpool South Parkway
- Or take the 500 City Centre to Airport bus from nearby Elliot Street
Flying with Children from Liverpool Airport
Liverpool Airport is especially family-friendly thanks to:
- Short walking distances between gates
- Priority family lanes in security
- Family-focused parking (Fast Track Family)
- Plenty of seating and food options inside the terminal
Inside the Terminal: Family Facilities and Food
Liverpool John Lennon Airport may be smaller than some, but it’s surprisingly well-equipped for families. Here’s what you’ll find:
Fast Track Security Lanes
Families travelling with small children or needing assistance can usually use family or priority lanes, helping you avoid long waits at security.
Dining Options
Once you’re through security, there’s a good selection of restaurants and cafés to keep everyone happy:
- Upper Crust: Easy grab-and-go options like sandwiches and fruit pots
- The Kissing Gate (Wetherspoon): Larger sit-down meals with good value for money, especially with kids’ portions
- Burger King: a family favourite for a quick bite!
Shopping at Liverpool Airport
Shopping with kids might sound like a challenge, but Liverpool Airport makes it quick and simple. Here’s what’s available:
World Duty Free
Great for travel-sized toiletries, sunglasses, and duty-free sweets. The pick-and-mix section is especially popular with children.
WHSmith
Pick up books, travel games, activity packs, and last-minute snacks to keep the kids occupied during the flight.
Boots
Perfect for nappies, sun cream, wipes, or medicines. You can also pre-order baby milk or formula to collect after security, which is a lifesaver if you are flying with infants.
Insider Tip: Use the Boots Click & Collect service online a few days before your trip. Your items will be waiting for you airside and won’t count towards your liquid allowance.
Family Comforts and Quiet Zones
While Liverpool Airport doesn’t yet have a dedicated play area, it does offer a calm, family-friendly experience:
- Baby changing in all toilet areas
- Quiet seating zones for naps or feeds
- Free Wi-Fi to stream cartoons or music while you wait
There are also information desks and friendly staff around if you need help navigating the airport with prams or bags.
Liverpool Airport : Conclusion
Liverpool Airport is a great option for easy, stress free travel – especially for families! With simple transport links, affordable parking and a compact layout, its no wonder so many of us North West & North Wales travellers choose LJLA over the larger airports!
