Olympus Riviera, Greece – A Family Guide 2026

If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for somewhere that feels a little different from the usual holiday destinations – somewhere with beautiful beaches, authentic tavernas, family-friendly resorts and enough to keep everyone happy without feeling overcrowded.

Enter the Olympus Riviera – Greece’s hidden gem that families are going to love! This up and coming Greek destination combines golden beaches, crystal-clear waters and the dramatic backdrop of Mount Olympus, creating the kind of scenery that makes you stop scrolling and start checking flight prices. Better yet, it’s easy to reach too, with flights into Thessaloniki followed by a straightforward transfer to the coast.

The Olympus Riviera sits on Greece’s northern mainland, stretching along the Aegean coastline in the Pieria region. The star of the show is Mount Olympus itself, the legendary home of the Greek gods, which towers over the coastline and gives the whole Olympus Riviera a seriously impressive backdrop. Unlike some of Greece’s busier islands, the Olympus Riviera still feels wonderfully authentic. You’ll find traditional villages, long sandy beaches, family-run tavernas and plenty of opportunities to explore beyond your hotel.

Why Families Will Love The Olympus Riviera

One of the things that makes the Olympus Riviera stand out is the variety – you can spend the morning building sandcastles on the beach, enjoy a lazy lunch overlooking the sea, then head into the mountains for an afternoon of exploring. The beaches are ideal for families, with calm, shallow waters in many areas, while boat trips, water sports and seaside promenades keep older children entertained. The Olympus Riviera also offers the perfect mix of beach holiday and sightseeing break, so there’s plenty to do if your family gets restless after a few days by the pool.

Things To Do In The Olympus Riviera

One of the biggest draws of the Olympus Riviera is, of course, Mount Olympus. Whether you fancy a gentle walk or a more adventurous hike, there are trails suitable for all abilities. History lovers can visit Platamon Castle, while traditional villages like Palaios Panteleimonas offer cobbled streets, local shops and incredible views across the coastline. It’s also great for cycling, beach days and simply soaking up the slower pace of Greek life.

Food And Drink

Food is always a big part of any Greek holiday and the Olympus Riviera doesn’t disappoint. Expect all the classics, including moussaka, souvlaki, fresh Greek salads and plenty of feta. Being right on the coast means seafood features heavily on menus too, often caught the same day. Finish with sticky baklava or loukoumades and wash it all down with local wine or a glass of ouzo if you’re feeling brave.

Recommended Family Accommodation in the Olympus Riviera (by Area)

Katerini Paralia Area

Olympus Riviera families who want a traditional beach holiday will love Katerini Paralia. The resort has a long sandy beach, a lively promenade and plenty of restaurants and cafés within easy walking distance. It’s one of the most popular resorts on the Olympus Riviera for families thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and easy access to the beach.

Mediterranean Resort

If your ideal family holiday involves being able to walk everywhere without constantly hearing “are we nearly there yet?”, Mediterranean Resort is a great choice. The beach is just a short stroll away and you’re close to the restaurants and shops of Katerini Paralia. Families will appreciate the outdoor swimming pool, family room options and buffet restaurant, which makes mealtimes much easier with younger children. It’s one of those hotels that gives you a traditional Greek beach holiday without needing to hire a car.

Mythic Summer Hotel

Mythic Summer Hotel feels a little more relaxed and spacious than some of the larger resorts. Set among gardens with Mount Olympus in the background, it has two outdoor pools including a children’s pool, making it ideal for families who spend most of their holiday in the water. The peaceful setting means you can escape the busier parts of the resort while still being within walking distance of both the beach and the centre. Family rooms and even some private pool options make it particularly appealing for families with older children.

Villa Eros Olympus

Families who prefer having their own space rather than squeezing into a hotel room will love Villa Eros Olympus. Self-catering facilities mean you’re not tied to restaurant times, while separate living and sleeping areas make life much easier when travelling with younger children. The extra space is particularly useful for longer family holidays.

This is a safe space ok 😬🫠

#thetravelmum #typeb #mumlife

The owner of this apartment does not seem to appreciate how this is a wee bit of a problem 🫠

Decent alternative tbf

I didn’t realise this was a problem until my dad side eyed me

Come on, something is going to fall through the net if I’m booking EVERYTHING

No one’s died yet

Are we all bathing our kids daily? 👀

Do as I say, not as I do, when it comes to travelling with kids this summer 😬 #travelexpert #lolz

ad When we heard this place being called the “St Lucia of Europe” we knew we had to check it out!

We love @eurocampholidays and find their camps perfect for our family. Arinella Bianca is ideal if you want to be right by the beach, with a mix of peace for you but fun for the kids!

After this camp, we are moving to another Eurocamp in Tuscany! More on that soon 🇮🇹
