Things To Do in Barcelona With Kids
Things To Do in Barcelona With Kids
Barcelona is a city that works for almost any type of trip. Whether you’re visiting for a day or staying a little longer, there are plenty of attractions to keep both kids and adults entertained. In fact, families will quickly realise there is no shortage of things to do.
From amusement parks to quirky museums and vibrant food markets, there is something for every interest. Plus, the city offers a brilliant mix of culture, outdoor space and family fun. Below are some of my favourite things to do in Barcelona with kids after visiting many times.
Tibidabo Amusement Park
Tibidabo Amusement Park has a wonderfully nostalgic feel. The rides work well for younger children as well as older thrill-seekers. Even if you only stay for a short time, the journey up the mountain feels like an adventure.
Meanwhile, the views from the top are absolutely incredible. Perched high above the city, Tibidabo offers one of the best viewpoints in Barcelona. At the very top you’ll also find the impressive Sagrat Cor church. Its statue even resembles a miniature Christ the Redeemer.
FC Barcelona Museum
For football fans, visiting the FC Barcelona Museum is an absolute must. Located near Spotify Camp Nou, the museum brings the club’s history to life.
Kids especially love seeing the trophies and learning about legendary players. However, you don’t need to be a huge football fan to enjoy it. The atmosphere alone makes it an exciting family attraction in Barcelona and definitely something that should be on your list of things to do in Barcelona with kids.
Park Güell
No trip to Barcelona would be complete without visiting Park Güell. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, it is one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
Grab a picnic and spend time exploring the colourful mosaics and winding pathways. Kids will love spotting the famous mosaic lizard. Meanwhile, parents can enjoy some of the best views across the city. As a result, it’s a perfect mix of sightseeing and outdoor space.
Barcelona Aquarium
If you need an indoor activity, Barcelona Aquarium is a fantastic choice. It is also one of the most popular things to do in Barcelona with kids.
The highlight is the long underwater tunnel. Here, sharks, rays and hundreds of fish swim above and around you. As a result, the experience feels incredibly immersive. It’s exciting without being overwhelming, which makes it ideal for children.
Additionally, it’s a great option on very hot days. Sometimes a break from walking and sightseeing is exactly what families need, so bear this in mind when planning things to do in Barcelona with kids.
House of Candy and White Rabbit Experience
For something a little different, the House of Candy and White Rabbit Experience is a fun and colourful attraction that kids absolutely love.
It’s an immersive experience that combines interactive rooms, creative displays and playful storytelling. It feels part art installation and part adventure, making it a great option for families looking for something unique. There are plenty of photo opportunities throughout, which older kids and teens will particularly enjoy.
PortAventura World
If you’re spending a few days in Barcelona, consider a day trip to PortAventura World. It’s one of the largest theme parks in Europe.
Located near Salou, the park is easy to reach from Barcelona by train. Once there, you’ll find rides for all ages and themed areas to explore. In addition, there are shows and entertainment throughout the day.
For families with thrill-seekers, this is easily one of the most exciting things to do near Barcelona with kids.
Free things to do in Barcelona with kids
Magic Fountain of Montjuïc
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is one of the best free experiences in Barcelona. Every evening at 8pm, the fountain hosts a spectacular show. Music, lights and water displays move together against the beautiful Montjuïc backdrop. As a result, it feels almost magical, especially for children.
While you’re there, head over to Arenas de Barcelona. The rooftop offers fantastic views and plenty of places to eat.
Park de la Ciutadella
When travelling with kids, finding a great park is essential. Fortunately, Parc de la Ciutadella is one of the best green spaces in Barcelona.
There are playgrounds, shady picnic spots and beautiful fountains. You’ll also find a small lake where you can rent rowing boats. After a busy morning sightseeing, this is the perfect place to relax. Better still, the park sits close to many attractions.
Mercat de la Boqueria
If your kids love snacks, Mercat de la Boqueria is a brilliant stop. Located just off Las Ramblas, the market is colourful and lively.
Inside, you’ll find fruit stalls, fresh juices, pastries and plenty of local treats. It’s a great way to introduce children to Spanish food. Even better, letting kids choose their own snack makes the visit extra fun. I’d definitely recommend adding this to your list of things to do in Barcelona with kids.
Barceloneta Beach
One of the best things about Barcelona is that you can enjoy a beach day during a city break. Barceloneta Beach sits just a short walk from the city centre. Here, kids can paddle in the sea or run around on the sand. Meanwhile, parents can relax and enjoy the lively atmosphere. You’ll also find street performers, restaurants and beach bars nearby. It’s the perfect place to end a busy day exploring the city.
Things To Do in Barcelona With Kids: Is it Worth it?
Barcelona is one of my favourite cities to visit because there truly is something for everyone. Families can explore museums, admire incredible architecture or simply relax by the beach. Even better, the city can easily be tailored to suit your family’s interests. With so many things to do in Barcelona with kids, you’ll never run out of ideas.
Plus, by mixing paid attractions with the many free activities around the city, you can enjoy an amazing trip without spending a fortune. If you’re looking for fun and memorable things to do in Barcelona with kids, this vibrant city should definitely be on your list.
