Costa Del Sol With kids – Things To Do

Planning a family holiday to southern Spain? The Costa del Sol is one of Europe’s most reliable sunshine destinations – but it’s also so much more than beaches and ice cream stops. If you’re travelling with children, you’ll find an incredible mix of water parks, wildlife encounters, outdoor adventure courses and indoor play centres that make it genuinely easy to keep everyone happy.
Whether you’re visiting with toddlers, primary school children or adventure-loving teens, this guide covers the very best things to do on the Costa del Sol with kids, including Málaga, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Marbella, Estepona and beyond.

Why the Costa del Sol is Perfect for Families

One of the reasons families return here year after year is variety. You can spend one day on the beach, the next racing down water slides, and the next walking through a butterfly house or heading out on safari – all without long drives. The infrastructure is excellent, attractions are well maintained, and many venues cater specifically for families with cafés, shaded areas and good facilities. It’s a destination where parents can relax while children stay entertained.
Let’s dive into the best family-friendly attractions to experience in the Costa del Sol with kids.

Water Parks on the Costa del Sol

If your children judge holidays by the height of the slides, you’re in the right place.

Aqualand Torremolinos – The Biggest Water Park in Málaga Province

Aqualand is the largest water park in the province and a guaranteed full-day adventure. With 14 high-adrenaline slides for thrill seekers, 15 children’s attractions and an 18-hole mini golf course, there’s something for every age group. The park spans 70,000m², with 40,000m² dedicated to attractions and the rest to green spaces and gardens- helpful when you need a break from the sun.

Travel Mum Tip:
Arrive at opening time during summer months. Head straight to the most popular slides first, then enjoy the children’s areas once queues build. Bring flip-flops ,the ground gets very hot by midday.

Parque Acuático Mijas – A Family-Friendly Alternative

Slightly smaller and easier to manage than Aqualand, this water park in Mijas covers 34,000m² and offers a mix of slides, pools and themed children’s areas. There are picnic areas and loungers, plus a bus service from Fuengirola town centre and free parking, -ideal if you’re not keen on city driving.

Best for: Families with mixed ages who want a slightly calmer water park experience.

Wildlife Parks and Zoos on the Costa del Sol

Animal lovers are well catered for here, with a choice of immersive zoos, safari parks and specialist animal centres.
Bioparc Fuengirola – An Immersive Zoo Experience
Bioparc is not your average zoo. Built around a “zoo immersion” philosophy, it recreates natural habitats so visitors feel transported to Africa or Asia as they walk through.
The emphasis is on conservation and respect for nature, making it educational without feeling heavy.
Best for: Primary school-aged children who love animals and interactive learning.
Top tip: It’s compact enough to explore in half a day without exhausting little legs.
Selwo Aventura Estepona – A Safari on the Costa del Sol
If your children love the idea of a safari, Selwo Aventura delivers. Home to more than 2,000 species, the park allows you to explore on foot or via off-road vehicle experiences.
It feels more adventurous and spread out than a traditional zoo, making it ideal for older children.
Travel Mum Tip:
Wear comfortable trainers and bring plenty of water – you’ll do more walking than expected.
Sea Life Benalmádena – Perfect for a Half-Day Activity
Located at the entrance to Benalmádena Marina, Sea Life is one of the best aquariums on the Costa del Sol. You’ll see sharks, green sea turtles and the enormous Japanese spider crabs.
Children can enjoy feeding sessions, educational talks and even face painting during special events.
Why it works well:
It’s easy to combine with lunch at the marina, making it a relaxed half-day plan rather than a full commitment.
Lobo Park -A Unique Wolf Experience
For something completely different, Lobo Park near Antequera focuses entirely on wolves. Guided tours (available in English and Spanish) explain pack behaviour and conservation efforts.
It’s quieter and more educational than a theme park — perfect for older children who can engage with guided experiences.
Mariposario de Benalmádena – The Butterfly Park
Housed inside an 8-metre-high glasshouse, this magical space is home to 1,500–2,000 butterflies at any one time, with around 150 species throughout the year.
Butterflies fly freely around you, and often land on visitors -making it a surprisingly calming and memorable experience.
Best for: Younger children or a gentle break between busier days.

Outdoor Adventure Parks on the Costa del Sol

If your children love climbing, zip lines and obstacle courses, there are excellent options here.
Aventura Amazonia Marbella – Treetop Adventures
Located just 500m from the Marbella coast, Aventura Amazonia is a treetop adventure park with six different circuits catering to varying ages and abilities.
Your ticket includes three hours in the trees and access to 20 zip lines. It’s energetic, exciting and perfect for confident older children and teens.
Travel Mum Tip:
Check height restrictions before booking and ensure everyone wears trainers.
Jungle Family Málaga – Outdoor Adventure Fun
Jungle Family in Churriana (near Málaga Airport) is an outdoor adventure park offering climbing circuits, obstacle courses, zip lines and even mini golf.
This isn’t soft play – it’s a structured outdoor activity space designed to challenge children physically while remaining safe and supervised.
It’s a fantastic alternative to a beach day when your children need something more active and organised.
Best for: Energetic children who love climbing and adventure challenges.
Tip: Bring water, sun hats and trainers – Málaga heat plus climbing equals tired (but happy) kids.

Indoor Soft Play and Family Lounges

Even on the Costa del Sol, you’ll occasionally encounter a rainy day -or simply need a break from the heat. That’s where indoor play centres come in.
Kidz Kingdom Estepona
One of the largest indoor soft-play centres in the area, Kidz Kingdom features multi-level play zones with slides, ball pools, trampolines and tunnels.
There’s café seating for parents and birthday party options available.
Perfect for: High-energy toddlers and younger children on hot afternoons.
Kiddo Family Lounge Fuengirola
This popular family café and indoor play space combines good coffee for adults with a large soft-play area for children.
It’s especially helpful if you’re travelling with toddlers who need safe indoor space while parents relax nearby.
Why parents love it:
You can actually sit down and enjoy a drink while your child plays within sight.
Happy Park Málaga
A highly rated children’s play centre offering varied indoor activities and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a reliable option for a couple of hours of active play.
Ideal to pair with a visit to Málaga city if little ones need a movement break.

Planning Your Family Holiday on the Costa del Sol

To make the most of your trip:
  • Book popular parks online in advance during school holidays.
  • Arrive early in summer to avoid queues and peak heat.
  • Mix high-energy days (water parks, adventure parks) with calmer wildlife or indoor experiences.
  • Check height and age restrictions before promising specific activities.
  • Always bring sunscreen, refillable water bottles and hats.
The key to a smooth family holiday is balance – not every day needs to be packed, and alternating big outings with beach or pool downtime keeps everyone happier.

Final Thoughts: The Best Things to Do on the Costa del Sol with Kids

The Costa del Sol isn’t just easy for families -it’s genuinely exciting. Few destinations offer this mix of beaches, safari parks, treetop adventures, butterfly houses, water parks and indoor play zones all within short driving distances.
Whether you’re travelling with toddlers who need soft play and shade, or teens craving zip lines and water slides, you’ll find something here that becomes a highlight of your holiday.
If you’re planning your itinerary, try choosing:
  • One big water park day
  • One wildlife experience
  • One outdoor adventure
  • One indoor or relaxed activity
  • And plenty of beach time in between
That combination tends to keep both children and parents smiling.

The last time I posted about this, there were so many comments from people saying you shouldn`t drink around children. Which I find mad as a child of the 90`s who grew up in working class England when pub culture was at its peak.

Kids entertaining themselves, a glass of wine with friends... If someone wants to open a soft play bar, I`ll be your first customer 🫡

Menorca is a fab shout for a family holiday 🍹

Short transfers ✔️
Calm, shallow beaches ✔️
No chaos, just a relaxed vibe ✔️

It’s one of the easiest places we’ve travelled with kids. Safe, simple, and really stress free. Think beach days, ice creams, and slow evenings without the hectic scenes you can often get on Mallorca and Ibiza. We decided we wanted to live there on the first day of our holiday 😝

We went in August which was a little too hot for us and very busy on some of the most popular beaches. The next time we go we will try May/June or September/October.

Comment MENORCA and I’ll send you a link to our favourite Menorca hotels with splash parks plus a video I made about a cheap boat trip we did 💛

We visited Billund having no idea what to expect, all we knew was that it is the birthplace of LEGO (which was enough in itself to make us want to visit!) We visited LEGOLAND, LEGO House, Lalandia and Wow Park. It’s a very walkable city and really great for families.

Annoyingly Ryanair dropped a lot of routes there, so you can only fly directly from London and Edinburgh. A great alternative is flying to Copenhagen and getting the train. Some people even drive there!

If you go to our blog and search Billund, we have a couple of posts on there about the attractions we visited.
