Volcano Bay, Orlando – An Honest Family Review 2026
Volcano Bay, Orlando – An Honest Family Review 2026
If you’re planning a Florida holiday and wondering whether Volcano Bay is worth adding to your itinerary… the short answer is yes. It’s not your typical water park – it’s a full-on tropical experience, packed with slides, splash zones and that iconic volcano you can spot from miles away.
Here’s everything you need to know about volcano bay, from tickets and rides to top tips (and a few money-saving tricks we learned along the way!)
What is Volcano Bay?
Volcano bay is Universal Orlando’s water park, sitting alongside the three main parks – Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe. It’s themed like a Polynesian island paradise, with the huge Krakatau volcano at the centre, waterfalls, sandy beaches and loads of family-friendly areas. It feels a bit more relaxed than the theme parks, but don’t be fooled – there are still plenty of adrenaline rides if you want them!
Volcano Bay Tickets & Opening Times
When planning your visit to Volcano Bay, you’ve got a few ticket options:
- 1-day tickets – perfect if you just want a chilled water park day
- Multi-park tickets – these include access to Universal’s theme parks AND volcano bay
- Park-to-park tickets – ideal if you want flexibility across multiple days
Ticket prices vary by season, so for the most accurate pricing check here.
We always recommend checking deals through Attraction Tickets as you can often save compared to buying at the gate.
Opening times usually sit around 10am–5pm, but they can vary depending on the season – and it’s worth knowing they sometimes host special evening events, which are meant to be amazing with fewer crowds and a totally different vibe.
Getting There (and Parking Costs)
We stayed at Universal’s Endless Summer Resort and used the free shuttle to get to Volcano Bay, which was super easy (especially with kids in tow).
If you’re driving, parking currently costs around $30 per day, so it’s worth factoring that into your budget.
Volcano Bay Rides by Height
One of the best things about volcano bay is how well it caters to all ages. Here’s a breakdown based on height so you know exactly what your little ones can enjoy.
Under 90cm at Volcano Bay
Perfect for toddlers and younger kids:
- Lazy River
- Runamukka Reef splash area (small slides and water play)
- The main volcano pool
- Puka Uli Lagoon
This area of Volcano Bay was ideal for our youngest – loads to do without feeling overwhelming.
Over 110cm at Volcano Bay
Great for younger school-age kids who want a bit more excitement:
- All slides at Runamukka Reef
- Ika Moana (part of Honu ika Moana)
- Punga Racers
- Taniwha Tubes
- Fearless River
- Round raft rides
- Aqua Coaster
This is where the park really starts to shine for families – lots of variety without being too intense.
Over 122cm at Volcano Bay
For thrill-seekers (or when you manage to sneak off without the kids 😅):
- Honu (Honu ika Moana)
- Drop slides
- Serpentine body slides
- Body Plunge (the near-vertical one through the volcano!)
These rides are what make this place feel like more than just a water park – some of them are seriously intense!
Our Favourite Part of Volcano Bay
Hands down, our favourite area of Volcano Bay was Runamukka Reef.
It was perfect for our 2 and 7 year old – loads of slides, splash features and space to just run around safely. We managed to grab a shaded picnic bench nearby, which made SUCH a difference in the heat.
Volcano Bay Restaurants
If you do fancy eating in the park, Volcano Bay has a good mix of options:
- Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club – burgers, pizzas and salads
- Bambu – quick bites like wraps and snacks
- Feasting Frog – tacos and nachos
- Dancing Dragons Boat Bar – drinks and cocktails
Tip: bring your own sandwiches and snacks. Food prices can be are pretty steep:
- Pizza: around $20
- Chicken tacos: around $17
- Bottle of Coke: $5.29
- Two beers: $24.50 😅
It all adds up quickly, so packing your own bits is a no-brainer.
Top Tips for Visiting Volcano Bay
A few things that really helped us make the most of our visit:
- Stay onsite if you can – you’ll get early park entry (30 minutes), which helps you grab a good spot
- Head to Runamukka Reef early if you’ve got younger kids – the shaded picnic benches are ideal
- Older kids? Try to base yourself near the main volcano pool/beach area – but grab an umbrella early as they go fast
- Swim nappies are FREE – just ask at the info desk (lifesaver if you forget!)
- Bring refillable water bottles – there are fountains to top up
- Use the TapuTapu system – this lets you “queue” virtually for rides, so you’re not stood around all day
- Water shoes are a good idea – the ground gets HOT
Booking Your Trip (The Easy Way!)
If you want to keep things simple, we’d definitely recommend looking at package holidays with British Airways Holidays. You can bundle flights, hotel, car hire and park tickets together, which takes a lot of the stress out of planning.
We’re staying at Universal’s Endless Summer Resort, which is one of the more budget-friendly Universal hotels and includes transport to all the parks – including volcano bay.

Final Thoughts – Is Volcano Bay Worth It?
Honestly, Volcano Bay ended up being one of our favourite days of the trip. It’s a really nice break from the busy theme parks but still feels exciting and special. If you’re travelling with kids, it’s such a good mix of relaxing and fun – and there’s genuinely something for every age.
Would we go back? 100% – I actually think this is my favourite water park to date!

ad I think this might be my new favourite water park in the world! It’s taken my top space from another amazing park, YAS Waterworld in Abu Dhabi.
Why did I rate Volcano Bay so much?
- Incredible theming as you’d expect from a Universal park.
- Lots for my 2 and 7 year olds to do together.
- Free swim nappies! (Little things like this show you a park gets it when it comes to families)
- It isn’t too big. Some waterparks are huge and difficult to get around. This felt quite compact while still having lots to do.
- Picnic benches by the splash area! Great for having a beer and snack in peace while the kids play.

I’ve written a blog over on our website with some more info on the park. Comment VOLCANO and I’ll send you a DM with the link.

The last time I posted about this, there were so many comments from people saying you shouldn`t drink around children. Which I find mad as a child of the 90`s who grew up in working class England when pub culture was at its peak.
Kids entertaining themselves, a glass of wine with friends... If someone wants to open a soft play bar, I`ll be your first customer 🫡

Menorca is a fab shout for a family holiday 🍹
Short transfers ✔️
Calm, shallow beaches ✔️
No chaos, just a relaxed vibe ✔️
It’s one of the easiest places we’ve travelled with kids. Safe, simple, and really stress free. Think beach days, ice creams, and slow evenings without the hectic scenes you can often get on Mallorca and Ibiza. We decided we wanted to live there on the first day of our holiday 😝
We went in August which was a little too hot for us and very busy on some of the most popular beaches. The next time we go we will try May/June or September/October.
Comment MENORCA and I’ll send you a link to our favourite Menorca hotels with splash parks plus a video I made about a cheap boat trip we did 💛
