If you’re planning a family trip to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, choosing the right place to stay can completely shape your experience. After all, a full day of rides, queues, snacks, and excitement calls for somewhere you can properly switch off afterwards.
During our recent family break to LEGOLAND, we stayed at the Royal Berkshire Hotel, a beautiful country house hotel just a short drive away, and it turned out to be one of those stays that genuinely elevates the whole trip. Set in the heart of the Berkshire countryside, this hotel offers the perfect balance of relaxation, luxury, and family-friendly fun. Whether you’re visiting LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, this is the kind of place that turns a busy trip into something truly special.
We only stayed for one night, but it’s safe to say we were already planning our return before we’d even checked out.

Why Stay Near LEGOLAND Windsor?

If you’ve visited LEGOLAND Windsor Resort before, you’ll know it’s an amazing day out, but it’s also a big one.
From early starts to fit everything in, to tired little legs by mid-afternoon, it can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you’re travelling with younger children. That’s why staying nearby makes such a difference.
Instead of:
  • Waking up at the crack of dawn to travel
  • Dealing with long drives home after an exhausting day
  • Trying to keep everyone happy when they’re overtired
You can:
  • Arrive relaxed and ready for the day
  • Take your time exploring the park
  • Head back to a calm, comfortable hotel afterwards
And that’s exactly where the Royal Berkshire Hotel comes in.

Location: A Peaceful Base Just Minutes from LEGOLAND

One of the biggest advantages of the Royal Berkshire Hotel is its location.
  • LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, just 10 minutes away
That short drive is ideal when travelling with kids. No long journeys, no stress, just a quick trip back to the hotel when everyone’s ready to unwind, but what really makes it special is the contrast. You go from the bright, busy, high-energy world of LEGOLAND to a calm countryside setting with open space, fresh air, and room to breathe.
It’s the kind of balance that makes a family trip feel much more enjoyable.

Royal Berkshire Hotel First Impressions: A Hotel That Feels Special (But Still Family-Friendly)

As soon as we arrived, the Royal Berkshire Hotel felt like somewhere special. The building itself is a stunning country house, surrounded by sweeping lawns and beautifully kept gardens. It has that classic, elegant feel, the kind of place you’d usually associate with weddings or romantic getaways. But what stood out immediately was how relaxed and welcoming it felt as a family. There was no sense of needing to keep children perfectly quiet or on best behaviour. Instead, it felt like a space where families could genuinely enjoy themselves. That balance, luxury without pressure, is something that’s surprisingly hard to find.

Outdoor Space: A Hidden Highlight for Families

After a full day at LEGOLAND, one of the best things about returning to the hotel was the outdoor space. The gardens are not only beautiful, they’re also incredibly usable for families. There’s plenty of room for children to run around safely, and the hotel provides a selection of lawn games that turn the space into something really fun and engaging.
We found:
  • Giant chequers
  • Snakes and ladders
  • Football
  • Frisbee golf, which quickly became our favourite
It was such a simple but effective way to extend the day without more queues or overstimulation.
Our 4 year old absolutely loved it, and it gave us a chance to sit back, relax, and enjoy the setting while he played.

Staying in the Dibblet Suite: Space Makes All the Difference

When travelling with children, the room you choose matters more than you think. We stayed in the Dibblet Suite, and it made a huge difference to our overall experience. After a long day at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, having extra space meant we could properly unwind rather than all being confined to one small room.
The suite featured:
  • A large, comfortable king-size bed
  • A separate lounge area
  • Plenty of floor space for little ones
  • Views overlooking the gardens
That separate living space was especially valuable in the evening. Once our son started to wind down, we didn’t feel like we had to sit in silence or go straight to bed, we could actually relax and enjoy the space.

Thoughtful Details That Make a Stay at Royal Berkshire Hotel Memorable

It’s often the small touches that turn a good stay into a great one, and the Royal Berkshire Hotel gets this exactly right. When we entered the suite, soft music was already playing, creating an instantly calming atmosphere.
After the noise and stimulation of LEGOLAND, that moment of calm felt incredibly welcome.
We also found:
  • Snacks and drinks ready in the room
  • Bottled water and soft drinks
  • A chilled bottle of wine for the adults
These little details made the stay feel considered and special, not just functional. The bathroom was equally well equipped, with both a bath and a walk-in shower, ideal for families needing flexibility at bedtime.

Family Afternoon Tea: A Treat Worth Booking

If you’re staying here, I’d highly recommend making time for afternoon tea, especially if you’re celebrating something. We booked it as a birthday treat, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our stay.
For adults:
  • Freshly made finger sandwiches
  • Warm scones with clotted cream and jam
  • A selection of beautifully presented cakes
For children:
This is where the experience really shines.
The children’s afternoon tea is designed to feel fun and exciting, including:
  • Sandwiches suited to younger tastes
  • Sweet treats like brownies and meringues
  • Fresh fruit
  • Ice cream
  • Popcorn
  • And of course, candy floss
It’s colourful, creative, and genuinely enjoyable for kids, not just a simplified version of the adult menu.

A Slower Pace After a Busy Theme Park Day

One of the biggest benefits of staying somewhere like the Royal Berkshire Hotel is the change of pace.
A day at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is exciting, but it’s also loud, busy, and full-on.
Coming back to:
  • Open space
  • Quiet surroundings
  • Comfortable seating
  • Fresh air
makes such a difference to how everyone feels. Instead of ending the day overwhelmed and exhausted, we actually felt able to enjoy the evening as a family.

Tips for Visiting LEGOLAND Windsor with Kids

If you’re planning your own trip, here are a few tips based on our experience:
Arrive Early
Getting to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort early helps you make the most of shorter queues.
Plan Your Must-Do Rides
Pick a few key attractions in advance so you’re not trying to do everything.
Take Breaks
It’s tempting to keep going, but regular breaks help avoid meltdowns for kids and adults.
Pack Smart
Bring:
  • Snacks
  • Refillable water bottles
  • Comfortable shoes
  • A change of clothes, especially for water rides
Stay Nearby
Booking a hotel like the Royal Berkshire means you don’t have to rush, and that makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

Who This Hotel Is Perfect For

The Royal Berkshire Hotel is ideal for:
  • Families visiting LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
  • Parents looking for a more relaxing alternative to on-site theme park hotels
  • Families celebrating birthdays or special occasions
  • Anyone wanting a mix of countryside calm and family-friendly comfort
It’s especially great if you value:
  • Space
  • Good food
  • A quieter environment
  • A more premium feel

Would We Stay Again?

Absolutely, without hesitation.
Next time, we’d definitely extend our stay to make the most of both the hotel and the surrounding area.
It’s one of those places that doesn’t just support your trip, it enhances it.

Final Thoughts on the Royal Berkshire Hotel: A Family Stay That Feels Like a Treat

Our stay at the Royal Berkshire Hotel turned a simple LEGOLAND trip into something much more memorable.
It gave us:
  • A calm place to recharge
  • Space to relax as a family
  • Thoughtful touches that made everything easier
  • And a setting that felt genuinely special

If you’re planning a visit to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and want somewhere that balances family-friendly features with a touch of luxury, this hotel is a fantastic choice. We left feeling relaxed, recharged, and already thinking about when we could come back, which says everything.

The last time I posted about this, there were so many comments from people saying you shouldn`t drink around children. Which I find mad as a child of the 90`s who grew up in working class England when pub culture was at its peak.

Kids entertaining themselves, a glass of wine with friends... If someone wants to open a soft play bar, I`ll be your first customer 🫡

Menorca is a fab shout for a family holiday 🍹

Short transfers ✔️
Calm, shallow beaches ✔️
No chaos, just a relaxed vibe ✔️

It’s one of the easiest places we’ve travelled with kids. Safe, simple, and really stress free. Think beach days, ice creams, and slow evenings without the hectic scenes you can often get on Mallorca and Ibiza. We decided we wanted to live there on the first day of our holiday 😝

We went in August which was a little too hot for us and very busy on some of the most popular beaches. The next time we go we will try May/June or September/October.

Comment MENORCA and I’ll send you a link to our favourite Menorca hotels with splash parks plus a video I made about a cheap boat trip we did 💛

We visited Billund having no idea what to expect, all we knew was that it is the birthplace of LEGO (which was enough in itself to make us want to visit!) We visited LEGOLAND, LEGO House, Lalandia and Wow Park. It’s a very walkable city and really great for families.

Annoyingly Ryanair dropped a lot of routes there, so you can only fly directly from London and Edinburgh. A great alternative is flying to Copenhagen and getting the train. Some people even drive there!

If you go to our blog and search Billund, we have a couple of posts on there about the attractions we visited.
