SpringVillas Portugal – Villa Carlota Honest Family Review

If you are looking for a family villa in the Algarve with a heated indoor pool, large garden and concierge service, Villa Carlota by SpringVillas is one of those rare finds that genuinely makes family travel feel easy.
Set in the hills just outside Silves, this spacious and beautifully designed villa combines everything you want from a family holiday. Think all weather swimming, outdoor space where children can run freely, and thoughtful extras like a playground, games room and even a concierge service that can organise unforgettable experiences. It’s the kind of place where you arrive planning to explore the Algarve and quickly realise you have everything you need right where you are.

Who are SpringVillas?

If you’re after something a bit more tailored than your standard villa stay, SpringVillas really stands out. They’re not simply a property management company – their focus is on hospitality – meaning they don’t just list villas and leave you to it – everything is much more personal!

What I love is that they manage everything themselves, so you’ve always got a team on hand during your stay if anything comes up (or if you just want to add extras like chefs, babysitting or shopping).

It’s that mix of personal service and total privacy that makes it feel less like a rental… and more like a properly thought-out holiday from start to finish.

Learn more about SpringVillas

Our SpringVillas Experience at Villa Carlota

Villa Carlota is a large, hillside villa near Silves, offering wide views over the town, river and surrounding countryside. It sleeps up to 14 guests across five bedrooms, with generous indoor and outdoor living space. Facilities include an outdoor pool, indoor heated pool, hot tub, gardens with water features, a children’s play area, games room, gym and bikes. Despite its private setting, it’s within a short drive of beaches, golf courses and local towns, making it a good option for larger groups wanting both space and easy access to the Algarve.

One of the first things you notice when arriving at Villa Carlota is the setting. Surrounded by countryside and perched above Silves, it offers a level of peace and privacy that is hard to find in busier resort areas of the Algarve.
For families, this makes a huge difference. The grounds are expansive, giving children the freedom to explore, run and play without the usual constraints of smaller villa plots or hotel environments.
At the same time, you are still within easy reach of beaches, restaurants and local attractions, so you get the best of both worlds. A relaxing base that still allows you to explore the wider Algarve when you feel like it.

The Gamechanger – Villa Carlota’s Heated Indoor Pool

If you are specifically searching for a villa with a heated indoor pool in the Algarve, this is where Villa Carlota truly stands out.
The indoor pool completely changes the dynamic of a family holiday. There is no need to worry about the weather, no chilly water putting the kids off, and no need to plan your day around external activities.
Instead, the pool becomes the natural centre of your stay. Mornings start with relaxed swims before breakfast, afternoons include easy dips to cool off, and evenings often end with one last splash before bed.
For parents, it removes a huge amount of pressure. The children are entertained, active and happy, and you can actually enjoy some downtime knowing there is always something for them to do. This feature alone makes Villa Carlota one of the best family villas in the Algarve for off season or shoulder season travel.

Villa Carlota’s Large Gardens

Outdoor space is essential when travelling with children, and Villa Carlota delivers this in a big way.
The garden is HUGE, secure and beautifully maintained, making it ideal for families looking for a family friendly villa in the Algarve with outdoor space. There are wide lawn areas perfect for football, running games or simply letting younger children roam freely.
SpringVillas also provide lawn games, which adds another layer of easy entertainment. It means you can step outside and immediately start enjoying family time without needing to organise activities or bring equipment with you.
What makes this space so special is how naturally it encourages children to play. They are not confined or limited. They can just be kids, which ultimately makes the whole holiday more relaxed for everyone.

Your Own Playground: Ideal for Younger Children

For families travelling with younger children, the onsite playground is a standout feature. This is not just a small add on. It is a dedicated play area with swings, a slide and a wooden playhouse, giving children their own space within the villa that feels fun and engaging. It quickly becomes part of the daily routine. Early morning play while parents enjoy coffee, short bursts of activity between swimming sessions, and a place to burn off energy before meals.
Having this kind of built in entertainment makes a big difference, especially when you want to keep the holiday simple and avoid constantly heading out.

Villa Carlota’s Games Room: Entertainment for Teens and Adults

Villa Carlota also caters brilliantly for older children and teenagers thanks to its separate games room. Located away from the main house, it provides a dedicated space where noise and energy can be contained, which is ideal for multi generational family trips. Inside, you will find a pool table and table tennis, creating a social hub that works for all ages. Evenings naturally drift into friendly competitions, with everyone getting involved. It is these shared moments that often become the highlight of a family holiday, and having a space designed for exactly this purpose makes it effortless.

SpringVillas Concierge Service

One of the features that elevates Villa Carlota from a great villa to a truly memorable experience is the SpringVillas concierge service.
This allows you to customise your stay in a way that suits your family perfectly. During our visit, we arranged both a private chef, housekeeping and a supercar experience, and all added something completely unique to the holiday. The private chef experience transformed an evening at the villa into something special. Sitting down together as a family, enjoying a beautifully prepared meal without any of the usual effort, created a relaxed and memorable atmosphere. The supercar experience was equally unforgettable, especially for the children. Seeing the car up close and being able to sit inside them brought a real sense of excitement and something a little different to the trip.
Having access to this level of service means you can create a holiday that goes beyond just a place to stay. It becomes a full experience.

Spacious Accommodation for Large Families and Groups

Villa Carlota is ideal for larger groups, sleeping up to 14 guests. Whether you are travelling as an extended family or with friends, the layout works well to balance shared spaces with areas for privacy. The living and dining areas are generous and comfortable, making it easy for everyone to come together for meals, games or simply relaxing at the end of the day. At the same time, the size of the villa and grounds means you never feel on top of each other, which is essential for longer stays.

Outdoor Living – Algarve Style

One of the joys of staying in a villa in the Algarve is the opportunity to live outdoors, and Villa Carlota makes this effortless.
With multiple terraces, outdoor seating areas and a BBQ, everything is set up for relaxed family living. Evenings become a highlight, with children playing on the lawn while meals are prepared and shared outside. The slower pace, the warm evenings and the simple act of spending time together outdoors all contribute to that classic Algarve holiday feeling.

Why We Think Villa Carlota by SpringVillas is One of the Best Family Villas in the Algarve

Villa Carlota combines all the elements that make a family holiday successful and removes many of the usual stresses.
You have:
-A heated indoor pool for all weather use
-A large enclosed garden for safe play
-An onsite playground for younger children
-A games room for older kids and teens
-A concierge service to enhance your stay
Together, these features create a villa that is not just family friendly in name, but in every practical sense.

The last time I posted about this, there were so many comments from people saying you shouldn`t drink around children. Which I find mad as a child of the 90`s who grew up in working class England when pub culture was at its peak.

Kids entertaining themselves, a glass of wine with friends... If someone wants to open a soft play bar, I`ll be your first customer 🫡

Menorca is a fab shout for a family holiday 🍹

Short transfers ✔️
Calm, shallow beaches ✔️
No chaos, just a relaxed vibe ✔️

It’s one of the easiest places we’ve travelled with kids. Safe, simple, and really stress free. Think beach days, ice creams, and slow evenings without the hectic scenes you can often get on Mallorca and Ibiza. We decided we wanted to live there on the first day of our holiday 😝

We went in August which was a little too hot for us and very busy on some of the most popular beaches. The next time we go we will try May/June or September/October.

Comment MENORCA and I’ll send you a link to our favourite Menorca hotels with splash parks plus a video I made about a cheap boat trip we did 💛

We visited Billund having no idea what to expect, all we knew was that it is the birthplace of LEGO (which was enough in itself to make us want to visit!) We visited LEGOLAND, LEGO House, Lalandia and Wow Park. It’s a very walkable city and really great for families.

Annoyingly Ryanair dropped a lot of routes there, so you can only fly directly from London and Edinburgh. A great alternative is flying to Copenhagen and getting the train. Some people even drive there!

If you go to our blog and search Billund, we have a couple of posts on there about the attractions we visited.
