Luckily, this beautiful part of the UK is full of family-friendly holiday parks and resorts that make travelling with little ones so much easier. Whether you fancy a cosy lodge near Windermere, a fun-packed caravan park in Keswick, or a relaxing family resort close to Ambleside and Coniston, there’s something for everyone. Many of these spots have brilliant facilities like playgrounds, swimming pools, kids’ clubs and easy access to some of the best family walks, boat trips and attractions in the Lake District – so you can keep the kids happy while still getting in a bit of relaxation and adventure too.
So, why The Lake District for a family friendly holiday?
The Lake District, England’s largest national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most beautiful places to visit in England, (some would argue the world!) and a great family friendly destination for a UK holiday. There are some brilliant resorts that offer children’s activities, play and fun plus relaxation in beautiful surroundings for grown ups too! Here’s why The Lake District should be on your list for a family friendly holiday:
- Gorgeous scenery, wildlife and nature – Stunning lakes including the world-famous Lake Windermere, towering mountains, picturesque waterfalls and fairytale woodlands to explore.
- Family Fun – You’ll find boat trips, train rides, water sports and plenty of outdoor exploring for the kids! You can also check out the World of Beatrix Potter for fans of the world-famous Peter Rabbit and his animal friends.
- Walks, outdoor adventures and water activities – From longer hikes to a short ramble, there’s walks for every ability (including England’s highest peak; Scafell Pike) plus canoeing, paddleboarding and cold water swimming in the lakes.
- History and Cultural Heritage – The Lake District boasts a rich history with evidence of the prehistoric, Roman and mining eras. The region also heavily celebrates Beatrix Potter, arguably England’s most famous children’s author, who lived and wrote there for many years.

Luca is the biggest “Paw Tall” fan, once he hit 90cm we had to check out the new Paw Patrol area at Chessington.
There are 4 rides, you need to be 90cm for them all:
- Chase’s Mountain Mission - A family-friendly coaster.
- Skye’s Helicopter Heroes - A small tower ride or rotating flight ride.
- Zuma’s Hovercraft Adventure - A spinning, rider-controlled drifting ride.
- Marshall’s Firetruck Rescue.
In the centre there’s a playground area with picnic benches. You can also meet the pups throughout the day.
There’s a gift shop that wasn’t TOO extortionate. It was £12 for a small plushie or £8 for a pup fluffy ball thing (this is what we got the boys). There is a hook a duck (catch a bone) game, but I didn’t rate the odds of winning so decided the gift shop would be better value 😅
It’s quite a small area, but for a paw patrol fan it’s worth a visit! The rest of the park had lots of things for our 90cm 2 year old to do too. Chessington is a fab park for the tiny ones.
I’ve got a link in my linktree to a current hotel offer for Chessington - you get two days of park tickets with an overnight stay and breakfast. That also gets you early entry into the park, which is a great way to do Paw Patrol land with short queues.
