Epic Universe Review – Visiting With Kids 2026
Epic Universe Review – Visiting with Kids 2026
If you’re heading to Orlando and wondering whether Epic Universe is worth adding to your plans, I’m going to say this straight away… it absolutely is. In fact, Epic Universe is now my favourite Universal park and one of my theme park top picks in the world. The theming is next level, the technology is genuinely mind-blowing, and there’s a really clever mix of rides that work for thrill seekers and families.
But as always, I’ll keep it honest – it’s expensive, it’s busy, and you need a plan to make the most of it.
Here’s everything you need to know from a real family visit to Epic Universe.
What is Epic Universe?
It’s Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, and a completely different style of park compared to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.
Instead of one big loop, it’s built around a central hub called Celestial Park, with four themed “portals” that transport you into completely separate worlds:
- Super Nintendo World
- Isle of Berk
- Dark Universe
- Wizarding World Ministry of Magic
It’s all designed to feel fully immersive, and honestly, it really does.
The Main Areas at Epic Universe:
Celestial Park – The Heart of Epic Universe
You’ll start and end most of your day in Celestial Park, which feels noticeably calmer than the portals, with fountains, landscaped gardens, and glowing details that really come alive at night. It’s also home to one of the best rides in the park (Stardust Racers), plus a beautifully themed family carousel that’s perfect for a breather between thrills.
Celestial Park Rides
Stardust Racers is a high-speed dual-launch racing coaster and easily one of my top 3 rollercoasters ever! It twists and weaves through Celestial Park as you race another train side-by-side, with everything lit up beautifully at night making it even more impressive. Height requirement: 122cm.
Constellation Carousel sits right in the centre of Celestial Park and is a lovely, slower-paced ride for families or a break between big attractions. Instead of traditional horses, you’ll ride beautifully themed celestial creatures under a glowing canopy of stars. There’s no minimum height requirement, although children under 48” must be accompanied, making it a great option for all ages.
Epic Universe – Super Nintendo World
Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe is exactly what you’d hope for if you’ve ever wanted to step inside a Mario game. It’s bright, loud, packed with detail, and full of interactive elements everywhere you look. This is one of the most immersive areas in Epic Universe, and it really feels like you’ve been dropped straight into the games.
It’s also very clever in how it blends rides, gameplay, and theming, making it just as fun to explore as it is to ride.
Super Nintendo World Rides & Experiences
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge (107cm) is the headline attraction in Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe. It’s an AR-powered dark ride where you wear goggles and physically steer through a Mario Kart race. It’s accessible for many older kids and families, but still exciting and competitive enough for adults.
Yoshi’s Adventure (91cm) is a much gentler ride that takes you on a slow-moving journey across the land with great views and hidden details along the way. With a height requirement of 91cm, it’s one of the most family-friendly rides in Epic Universe and perfect for younger children.
The land expands into Donkey Kong Country, which feels completely different with jungle scenery, waterfalls, mine carts and hidden interactive details throughout. The headline ride here is:
Mine-Cart Madness (102cm), a family coaster themed around the Donkey Kong games. The ride uses a clever track system to create the illusion that your cart is jumping over broken sections of track, just like in the games. It’s much more thrilling than Yoshi’s Adventure, but still manageable for many kids who are ready for their first “bigger” coaster.
Power-Up Band system. You need to purchase a Power Up band to take part in this. It turns the land into an interactive game zone where you can collect coins, hit blocks, and complete challenges throughout your visit.
Overall, Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe is one of the most energetic and interactive lands in the park, and it’s brilliant for families who want something fun, fast-paced, and full of nostalgia. If you have children who are sensitive to noise, have noise cancelling headphones at the ready, this area is ‘a lot’.
Epic Universe – The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Ministry of Magic)
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Epic Universe takes a different approach to previous Harry Potter lands, focusing on the Ministry of Magic. It’s detailed, immersive, and packed with storytelling, making it one of the most visually impressive areas in the park.
It feels more refined and atmospheric, with a strong sense of place and connection to the wider Wizarding World.
Wizarding World Rides & Experiences
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry (102cm) is the main attraction here and one of the most advanced rides in Epic Universe. It blends physical sets, projection, and motion-based storytelling to create a highly immersive experience inside the Ministry of Magic. It’s accessible to many families but still delivers a dramatic and cinematic experience. I can honestly say I haven’t ever been on a ride like it.
Le Cirque Arcanus is a full-scale live theatre show set inside a travelling wizarding circus in Paris. It combines live performers, puppetry, aerial acts, and incredible special effects as the story follows Newt Scamander’s magical creatures after his suitcase is stolen.
There’s also an interactive experience spread throughout the streets of wizarding Paris that’s worth checking out – with a wand, you can cast spells on shop windows, objects, and magical creatures hidden in the land. It’s very easy to miss things if you’re rushing, so it really rewards slowing down and exploring. The wands aren’t cheap, it was too late for us once we were told the prices (Leo did the whole Olivanders wand experience and a wand ‘chose him’). The cheapest option was $65, worth being prepared for, especially if you have multiple children!
Overall, this is one of the most immersive lands in Epic Universe for Harry Potter fans, with a strong focus on storytelling and atmosphere rather than thrill rides.
Epic Universe – Dark Universe
Dark Universe is one of the most atmospheric and visually impressive areas in Epic Universe. It’s moody, gothic, and themed around Universal’s classic monsters, reimagined in a modern, cinematic way. It’s darker in tone to the rest of the park, more intense in places, and packed with incredible detail.
Dark Universe Rides & Experiences
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment (122cm) is the signature ride in Dark Universe and one of the most technologically advanced attractions in the whole park. It’s a dark ride with intense scenes, massive animatronics, and immersive storytelling.
Curse of the Werewolf (102cm) is a spinning outdoor coaster that fits perfectly into the darker theme of the land. It’s a great mid-level thrill ride, offering fast turns, spinning cars, and a fun but slightly unpredictable ride experience.
Dark Universe as a whole is less about multiple attractions and more about atmosphere. The streets, lighting, live actors (monsters) and theming are a huge part of the experience, making it one of the most immersive areas in Epic Universe Orlando.
Epic Universe Tickets & Opening Times
If you’re planning a trip to Epic Universe, it’s worth knowing that both ticket types and opening hours can vary depending on the season.
Epic Universe Tickets
Tickets are date-based, which means prices can change depending on how busy the park is, with peak times like school holidays and summer being more expensive. It’s always worth booking early if you can, especially for peak travel periods. We always recommend checking deals through Attraction Tickets as you can often save compared to buying at the gate.
- 1-day tickets – perfect if just wanting to visit Epic Universe
- Multi-park tickets – multiple Universal Orlando tickets in one (often better value if you’re doing the other parks too – explore options here.)
- Park-to-park tickets – ideal if you want flexibility across multiple days
Epic Universe Opening Times
Opening hours for Epic Universe typically sit around:
- Usual opening time: 9am-10am
- Usual closing time: 7pm-10pm
- Early Park Admission (for selected hotel guests): from around 8am
In peak seasons (like summer and school holidays), you’re more likely to see longer hours, with the park often staying open later into the evening. In quieter periods, closing times can be earlier, around 7–8pm.
Hours can change quite regularly depending on demand, so it’s always best to double-check your exact date on the Universal Orlando app before you go.
Dining at Epic Universe
Food at Epic Universe isn’t just an add-on – it’s genuinely part of the experience. Every land has its own themed dining, and the menus are designed to match the worlds you’re in, whether that’s Viking feasts, wizarding French-inspired dishes, Mario-themed snacks or monster-inspired quick bites.
It is worth saying upfront though: food is expensive, and it adds up quickly. We saved money by taking sandwiches and snacks, and there are plenty of places around the park to refill water bottles, which really helps in the Florida heat.
Getting There (and Parking Costs)
We stayed at Universal’s Endless Summer Resort and used the free shuttle to get to Epic Universe, which was super easy (especially with kids in tow).
If you’re driving, here’s what you need to know about the parking situation:
The park has its own dedicated multi-level parking structure, split into themed sections (like Explorer, Monster, Viking, Dragon and Hero).
Typical parking prices at Epic Universe are:
- Standard self-parking: around $32-$35 per day
- Prime parking (closer to the entrance): around $50-$60 per day
- RV/oversized vehicles: higher rates
- Free parking: sometimes available after 6pm (useful for evening visits or events)
Prices can vary depending on demand and time of year, with peak periods costing more.
Top Tips for Visiting Epic Universe
- Arrive early – the first hour after opening is the quietest and best for big rides like Battle at the Ministry
- Prioritise your must-do rides, but don’t over-plan – Epic Universe is best enjoyed with some flexibility
- Use Early Park Admission if you’re staying onsite, it makes a big difference to your queue times!
- Take snacks with you to save money – food is expensive throughout Epic Universe
- Use the free water refill stations often, especially in the Florida heat
- Do the headline rides early or later in the evening when queues are shorter
- Spend time in Isle of Berk as a “reset zone” – it’s shaded, relaxed, and great for families
- If within budget, enjoy the interactive elements like wand magic in Wizarding World and Power-Up Bands in Super Nintendo World.
- Stay until evening if you can – Celestial Park and Stardust Racers are incredible at night
- Wear comfortable shoes – Epic Universe is large and you’ll walk a lot between portals
- Download the Universal app to check live wait times and show schedules throughout the day
Booking Your Trip
If you want to keep things simple, we’d definitely recommend looking at package holidays with companies like British Airways Holidays. You can bundle flights, hotel, car hire and park tickets together, which takes a lot of the stress out of planning.
We stayed at Universal’s Endless Summer Resort, which is one of the more budget-friendly Universal hotels and includes transport to all the parks and early entry.

Final Thoughts on Epic Universe
Epic Universe Orlando is, without exaggeration, one of the most impressive theme parks I’ve ever visited.
It’s now my favourite Universal park, and up there with my favourites in the world, mainly because of the level of detail and immersion in every single land. Each portal genuinely feels like stepping into a completely different world, and the jump in technology and storytelling compared to other parks is huge. There’s a really strong balance here too. You’ve got serious thrill rides like Stardust Racers and Monsters Unchained, but also brilliant family-friendly areas like Isle of Berk, which is easily my favourite land in the park thanks to how well it works for younger kids and how much space there is to just explore and breathe.
That said, it’s not a cheap day out. Food is expensive, and it’s a full-on park, so you definitely need to pace yourselves, take breaks, and plan your priorities. But if you go in prepared, it’s absolutely worth it.
The biggest compliment I can give Epic Universe is that it feels like the future of theme parks. It’s immersive, clever, and properly exciting in a way that makes you want to go back again and again.
If you’re heading to Orlando, this is one park you really don’t want to miss.
