Olhos D’Agua, Portugal – A Family Guide
Olhos D’Agua – The Perfect Family Destination?
Olhos D’Água is a small fishing town in Portugal, and although tourism has grown here, it still retains its Portuguese charm. Nestled between the much busier Vilamoura and Albufeira, the magic of the town lies in its peaceful pace and stunning coastline.
A little gem of a town, perfect for either a relaxing holiday or as a base to explore the Algarve. It’s suitable for families with young children or couples seeking a quiet break.
Olhos D’Agua Beaches
There are two beaches within walking distance from anywhere in the town. Praia da Falésia is slightly further from town but is one of the best-rated beaches on the Algarve and can be accessed via 120 steps. If you are travelling with small children, a carrier would be helpful here.
The beach is backed by stunning cliffs and has a long stretch of sand extending all the way to Vilamoura. There is a restaurant serving authentic Portuguese cuisine, as well as sunbeds and shade available for rent for either half a day (8 euros for 2 sunbeds) or a full day (15 euros for 2 sunbeds). Toilets and showers are also available.
Praia de Olhos de Água is a much smaller beach, but it is still well worth a visit and easily accessible via a small slope from the centre of town.
Olhos D’Agua Restaurants
You will find a good range of reasonably priced restaurants in the town, serving incredible seafood and authentic Portuguese dishes, as well as a variety of other cuisines, such as Italian, to cater to younger guests.
Calheiros is a family run restaurant serving authentic Portuguese cuisine. I ordered the monkfish and prawn kebab, which cost 18 euros, and a large glass of house wine, which set me back only 5 euros. You can order an authentic cataplana for two people to share for around 40 euros – you will not be disappointed! There is also a children’s menu, with meals priced at around 8 euros each.
Fratelli’s is a wonderful Italian restaurant offering a great selection of pizza and pasta. I had the prawn linguine for 16.50 euros, and their drinks are very reasonably priced. They also offer gluten-free pasta.
Where to stay in Olhos D’Agua?
Another reason Olhos D’Agua makes the perfect holiday location, is the range of fabulous accommodation available within a relatively small area.
Just a short five-minute walk from the town, you’ll find a small group of four hotels offering accommodation options for various budgets and family sizes.
