Family Friendly Resorts in Spain…

Spain is an absolute gem for families, offering everything from golden beaches and thrilling theme parks to vibrant cities and peaceful countryside escapes. With its warm, welcoming culture and a love for children woven into daily life, it’s no surprise that Spain continues to be a top pick for family getaways.

Whether you’re after calm, shallow waters for little ones, action-packed resorts for teens, delicious food, or a more laid-back, authentic escape – the beauty of Spain is that it caters to every type of family holiday.

In this post I will share some fabulous family friendly resorts in Spain – whether you’re dreaming of island adventures, cultural cities or beachside bliss.

Family-Friendly-Resorts-in-Spain

Is Spain a Family-Friendly Destination?

Absolutely – Spain is one of the best places in Europe for a family holiday! Here’s why it’s such a winner for travelling with kids:

1. Warm Welcomes & Safe Surroundings

Spanish people adore children, and families are made to feel genuinely welcome wherever they go – whether you’re in a tiny tapas bar in the north or a beachside café in the south, Spain is known for its laid-back, family-first culture and is considered a very safe destination for travelling with little ones.

2. Something for Everyone

Whether your kids are beach lovers, thrill-seekers or curious explorers, Spain has it all. Think: paddleboarding in Menorca’s calm coves, rollercoasters at PortAventura, volcano treks in Lanzarote, or water slides at Siam Park in Tenerife. There’s also plenty of history, vibrant cities and delicious food – making it just as fun for grown-ups too!

3. Family-Friendly Hotels and Resorts

Spain is packed with brilliant family accommodation – from all-inclusive beachfront hotels with kids’ clubs and splash parks, to stylish city stays and countryside cottages. Many resorts offer trusted names like TUI BLUE or Splashworld, designed with families in mind, so you can focus on making memories (and actually relax). Family friendly resorts in Spain are not hard to come by!

The Best Places to Stay in Spain for Families

1. Menorca: The Tranquil Treasure

Perfect for families looking to unwind in nature’s lap. With its soft sandy coves and charming villages, it feels like your own private escape even in peak season – we visited just after school term ended and loved the calm mornings and wildflower-strewn trails.

Best Areas to Stay:
  • Cala’n Bosch: A safe, sheltered bay with gentle waters and a family-friendly marina. Plenty of gelato stops and boat trip departures.
  • Son Bou / Santo Tomás: Long sandy beaches ideal for sandcastle building and paddleboarding; a good mix of relaxed bars and playgrounds.
Our Favourite Self‑Catering Option:

Talayot Apartments – Bright units with kitchenettes, balconies, SIX pools and a TUI Kid’s Club. Ideal for families who love the flexibility to eat when and where they like.

Our Favourite All Inclusive Hotel:

TUI BLUE Grupotel Turquesa Mar – A brilliant stay with splash pools, indoor areas, Baby Lounge and spacious one-bedroom family apartments. Just minutes from the beach and Cala’n Bosch marina.

2. Costa del Sol: Sun, Sand & Smiles

A classic sunshine destination – vibrant beach towns, delicious fried fish espetos, and an engaging, family-friendly vibe. We stayed in Nerja during spring and absolutely loved exploring the Balcón de Europa and its nearby caves.

Best Areas to Stay:
  • Benalmádena / Torremolinos: Fantastic for families who want it all-beaches, waterparks, aquariums, and a lively but child-friendly atmosphere.
  • Nerja: More peaceful and traditional, full of character. Think sandy coves, old-town charm, and starlit tapas evenings.
  • Estepona: Relaxed seafront promenade, family-friendly beaches, a huge beach side playground and lots of ice-cream stalls. A great base for a slower-paced break with little ones.
Our Top Pick for Beachfront Relaxation:

Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park – A brilliant choice for families wanting to be right on the sand. There’s a splash pool for kids, a mini disco in the evenings, and a spacious sun terrace perfect for parents to unwind while the kids play.

Best for Active Families with Teens:

TUI BLUE Riviera (Benalmádena) – This stylish hotel is great for families with older children. Close to the beach, marina, and Sea Life Centre, it also offers a wellness area, bike hire, and nearby adventure parks.

Don’t miss:

Nerja Caves – Ideal for an afternoon adventure. Kids will be amazed by the vast caverns and magical lighting inside this natural wonder.

Dramatic landscapes blend with thrilling family activities – volcano tours, jet-skiing, pony rides at Rancho Texas and spectacular sunsets. Great for kids who like a bit of excitement.

Best Areas to Stay:
  • Playa Blanca: A laid-back base with beach vibes and easy access to water excursions. The weather here is a lot warmer in the winter and doesn’t seem to get as windy.
  • Costa Teguise: Surf and snorkel-friendly sheltered bays perfect for teens.
Our Favourite Self Catering Option:
  • Apartamentos LIVVO Las Gaviotas – Just a matter of minutes from the beach and waterside promenade, which leads to Matagorda the buzzing town of Puerto del Carmen.
Our Favourite All Inclusive Option:
  • Alexandre Grand Teguise Playa Hotel – An all-day buffet and a long list of activities to keep kids entertained, plus close to a sandy cove with glass-clear waters.

5. Catalonia: Culture, Coasters & Coastline

Catalonia blends sunny beach resorts with iconic cities and cultural charm. It’s perfect for families who want a mix of beach time, fun parks and sightseeing. We spent a few days exploring both Barcelona and the coast – and loved how easy it was to combine it all.

Best Areas to Stay:
  • Salou: Home to PortAventura World, one of Europe’s best theme parks. A brilliant pick for families with older kids. Read our review of PortAventura World.

  • Cambrils: A quieter beach town next door to Salou, with a more laid-back vibe and great seafood.

  • Barcelona suburbs (Sitges or Castelldefels): Ideal for combining beach days with day trips into the city – easy by train!

Our Favourite Family Apartment Stay:
  • Áncora Salou – La Siesta Apartments – These self-catering apartments are perfect for families who want space and flexibility. They’re also within walking distance to Salou’s beach and shops, plus easy access to PortAventura
Top Pick Near the Theme Park:

7. Northern Spain: Slow Travel & Seaside Charm

Northern Spain is perfect for families craving a slower pace – surf beaches one day, countryside trails the next, and delicious local treats whenever you’re hungry. It’s a refreshing contrast to busy summer destinations.

Tip: A kid-sized pintxos crawl in San Sebastián’s open-air bars followed by a sunset beach walk at La Concha – simple, memorable, and utterly charming.

Ksamil is a town on the Albanian Riviera and has had some very mixed reviews over the years, and I think a lot of that comes down to when you visit.

We absolutely loved our trip. It was incredibly affordable too - we paid £190 for six nights in an apartment that slept five! (This was in 2023) I’ve written a full blog post about the trip over on the website, where I’ve shared some great-value accommodation options and tips if you’re thinking about booking something similar.

Comment BLOG and I’ll send you the link along with some cheap flights and info on how to get there!

Expect things like:

🍻 £1.50 pints
🦐 Seafood dishes for under £10
☀️ Beautiful, crystal-clear beaches

We visited in May, when there were very few other people around. The town was just starting to open up for the season, the weather was lovely, and it felt relaxed and easy to enjoy.

June also seems like a great time to visit – a few more things open, but still without the peak summer crowds.

July and August appear to be a very different experience. The town is quite small, and it struggles to cope with the number of visitors in peak season. It can feel very crowded, and prices - particularly for things like sun loungers - can become very steep because of the demand.

So if Ksamil is on your list, timing really is everything!
